Speed = 26miles*1.6km*1000m/(75 mins*60 seconds) ~~ 9 m/s
In 1 min , she'll cover 60*9 = 540 m, where I'm going wrong?

Posted from my mobile device
26 * 1.6  = 42 Km
now 2.25 = 135 min
42/125 Approx 300m/min so 500 is 100 mins

Hope this helps

A marathon runner starts the 26 mile run at 7.30 AM and reaches the finish line at 9.45 AM. If he runs at a constant speed throughout the marathon and water stations are put up along the route of the marathon after every 500 metres, which of the following is the closest to the time taken by the runner to go from one water station to the next one? (1 mile = 1.6 kilometres)

A. 1 minute 10 seconds
B. 1 minute 20 seconds
C. 1 minute 30 seconds
D. 1 minute 40 seconds
E. 1 minute 50 seconds
The total time taken is 2hrs 15mins=2hrs + (15/60)mins=2.25hrs.
The total distance is 26 miles=26*1.6=41.6kms.
Therefore, the runner's speed is 41.6/2.25=4160/225=832/45=18.4888...~18.49km/hr. This is constant.
Given, that the distance between two water stations is 500m=0.5kms.
So the time taken to go from one water station to another is 0.5/18.49~0.5/18.5=5/185~0.027hrs=0.027*60=1.62minutes i.e 1min (62/100)*60=1min 37.2 secs~1min 40 seconds. Option (D) is correct.

Given: A marathon runner starts the 26 mile run at 7.30 AM and reaches the finish line at 9.45 AM.
Asked: If he runs at a constant speed throughout the marathon and water stations are put up along the route of the marathon after every 500 metres, which of the following is the closest to the time taken by the runner to go from one water station to the next one? (1 mile = 1.6 kilometres)

Total Distance = 26 miles
Total time taken = 9:45 - 7:30 = 2:15 = 135 minutes
Speed = 26/135 miles/minutes

Distance between water stations = .5/1.6 = 5/16 miles
The time taken by the runner to go from one water station to the next one = (5/16)/(26/135) = (5*135)/(16*26) = 1.62 minutes = 1 minutes 40 seconds approx
