If x is equal to one of the numbers \(\frac{5}{11}\), \(\frac{7}{12}\), \(\frac{9}{13}\) what is the value of x?

(1) \(\frac{5}{11} < x <\frac{3}{4}\)\(\)

(2) \(\frac{11}{13}> x > \frac{1}{2}\)

x is 5/11 or 7/12 or 9/13
(1) tells us
5/11 < x < 3/4
to check for 7/12
5/11 < x < 9/12 (7/12 is possible)
to check for 9/13 or 36/52
5/11 < x < 39/52 (9/13 or 36/52 is possible)
Not Sufficient

(2)
11/13 < x <1/2
7/12 and 9/13 are out of picture as they are greater than 1/2
to check for 5/11 or 55/143
121/143 < x <1/2 (5/11 or 55/143 is possible)
Sufficient

Hence B

You seems to have misread the second statement.

Also you this was easy to recognise because how can x be less than 0.5 and still greater than 11/13

Hi,
what's the best/fastest way to solve such questions? Dividing them to find the decimal values would take so much time?

Hi

Its advisable to learn tables upto 20, that will help in these kind of questions. Almost everyone knows tables upto 10/11, its a good idea to keep writing tables from 11 to 20 (maybe just 3/4 tables at a time, but again and again for many days till it gets ingrained in the mind) till they become automatic.
