What is the area of the 6 rectangles shown in the figure?

(1) The area of rectangle D is twice the area of rectangle E.
(2) The area of rectangle A is equal to the area of rectangle F and the area of rectangle E, which is 20, is equal to the area of rectangle F.

After combining the two statement we get

Area of E = Area of F = Area of A = 20
Now statement 1 gives, Area of D = 40
i.e. Area of B = Area of C = (1/2) Area of E or F = 10

Now we have area of each rectangle hence

SUFFICIENT

Area of D = 40
Area of A = 20
this indicates that all the rectangle in first row have areas equal to half of areas of rectangle immediately below them because their lengths are the same and width of rectangle in above row is half of that of in immediately below rectangles respectively

that's why area of B and V will be half of area of E and F respectively

Hi nithinjohn,
Please refer the enclosed diagram, you would notice that
Area of rectangle B=area of rectangle C=z*k

We have x*y=40---(1), x*z=20----(2), and y*k=20 or, k=\(\frac{20}{y}\)---(3)
From (1)&(2),we have z=\(\frac{y}{2}\)

So z*k=(y/2)*(20/y)=10, which is 1/2 times area of E or F
