What is the product of a certain pair of consecutive even integers?


(1) At least one of the integers is neither positive nor negative.
(2) At least one of the integers is prime.


statement 1: we must have one integer as 0 so product is definitely 0 so statement 1 is sufficinet

statement 2 : lets take 0 , 2 we have product =0 lets take 2 and 4 product is 8 so not suffiocient

so answer is a)

so one number is 0, and the product will always be 0.

Sufficient

(2) At least one of the integers is prime.
So one number is 2.
Product can be 0 or 8.

Insufficient

Stat1: At least one of the integers is neither positive nor negative.
It means we have Zero in product. So, Total will be Zero. Sufficient.
Stat2: At least one of the integers is prime.
We have one integer =2, but other can be 0 or 4, which makes total = 0 or 8. Not sufficient.

So, I think A. :)

Means one of the integers is 0
The product will be 0
-Sufficient


(2) At least one of the integers is prime.
- Means one of the integers is 2
-others could be 0, 4
- product will be different
- not sufficient

Both the integers are consecutive even integers.

From the first statement, one of the numbers must be 0. since it is the only integer that is neither positive nor negative. thus, the product will be 0. Sufficient.

From the second statement, one of the numbers must be prime, i.e. 2. Now, another number can be either 0 or 4. thus product can be 0 or 8. Insufficient.

IMO option A is the answer.

We have to find the product of certain pair of consecutive even integers.
So our even integer pairs could be x and x+2 or x-2 and x


Statement 1
This statement tells us that at least one of the integers is neither positive nor negative
and the only even integer which is neither positive nor negative is 0
so x = 0
so the pair of integers could be
-2, 0 or 0, 2
The product of either of the pairs will be 0
Hence Sufficient

Statement 2
At least one of the integers is prime
2 is the only even integer which is prime
So the pair of integers could be
0, 2 or 2, 4
The product of the pair will give the value 0 or 8
We have 2 values for the product of a certain pair of consecutive even integers.
Hence No Sufficient

So the answer will be A

(2) At least one of the integers is prime

\From 1 we know an even integer which is neither positive or negative is 0. Therefore any number multiplied by 0 is 0.
Sufficient
From 2 we know the only even prime no is 2. So consecutive even number to 2 is 0 or 4. So product will be either 0 or 8
Not sufficient.

IMO A.
