Is a > 0?

(1) a + b > 1
(2) b - a < 1

Statement 1:

a>1-b not sufficient as we do not know value of b

Statement 2:
b-a<1

or a>b-1 not sufficient as we do not know value of b

Let us combine statement 1 and 2 now

add 1 and 2 statements to get
2a+b>b

or 2a>0 or a>0

Hence,sufficient

Choice C is the correct answer in my opinion

Always combine the inequalities by addition.

Hoozan
GMATBusters in Inequalities I came across this statement An Inequality in 1 or 2 variables will NEVER be answered by another Inequality in 2 or 1 variable

Keeping the above in mind we can reject (1) and (2). By adding the two we can get our answer

However, why doesn't the above logic work for https://gmatclub.com/forum/is-x-y-1-x-y ... 51547.html

A and B together are not sufficient. Multiple st 2 by -1 and add both the equations and well have one definite answer.
