Hi all,
I'm a junior accounting major and I'm applying to a master's program at my current school. I'll find out if I'm accepted by march of this year, however I won't have any info on a full scholarship until the end of my senior year (next march). The school is offering a half tuition scholarship as long as I get in because I'm coming from the undergrad program, but there are a few TA spots that get full rides plus a stipend but they won't inform me of whether or not I get one of those spots until the end of senior year. I really don't want to get any more loans. So I'm probably going to apply to other MAcc programs to see what kind of money I can get from other places in case my current university cannot give me a full scholarship. Finally, my question is whether or not it is common to get merit based scholarships for such programs. I don't want to put a lot of time and effort into filling out several applications if scholarship money is not even available.
FYI my gpa is 3.89 overall, 3.94 major, 760 GMAT so I think I may apply to top programs.
Any help would be much appreciated,

Unfortunately, scholarships for MAcc (MS Accounting) programs aren't as common (compared to other graduate level programs) because;
1) 5th year MS program is required for all CPA pursuing accounting students
2) Program is short - usually 1 to 1.5 yrs to complete
3) Program itself isn't as lucrative for schools themselves as law, medical or business graduate programs
However, you should be able to find scholarships to help your studies if you look for them early on.
You've mentioned that your school offers half tuition for the master's program, plus possibility of TA position. Keep that option open.
If you were a non-accounting business major, you could have taken advantage of programs such as Ernst & Young's "Your Master Plan" to finance MS Accounting degree.

There are private accounting scholarships available:

Also, you have a stellar stats. Consider, nearby public universities with MS programs. They are usually cheaper.
Otherwise, you should also consider for MBA programs specifically designed for current college students - such as Harvard's 2+2 - program. The trend is - business schools are trying to attract top undergrads directly into their MBA programs (or with 2 yr experience but guaranteed spot)...

2) One of the reason why bschools are looking to attract younger students is because they want to attract more female applicants.

I second ninkorn's advice on MBA directly from undergraduate program.
This is the current trend and your profile is way too strong to pass up an opportunity like this.
Not too many undergrads can boast your profile - top private school, Summa Cum Laude-esque GPA, God-like GMAT score.....etc

) I'm definitely checking out HBS 2+2 right now and will look into the links you've provided BearStearner. I've been so set on assuming that I'd know whether or not I would get this scholarship sooner rather than later that now I'm questioning what I really want to do. Not really sure I want to spend a year getting an MAcc or if I might go after an MBA since it appears that it's more possible than I previously believed.
