Dear Team
Admissionado, I hope you are doing well amidst the current turbulency. I am preparing to apply for Yale, Columbia, Kelloggs and Harvard in R1 this summer, therefore I am reaching out to you kindly asking you to evaluate my profile. I can imagine my profile is somewhat untypical, so maybe you could also point out what part of my experience I should expose in the essay/recommendations.
Thank you in advance!
·
Demographics (nationality, gender): russian, female, turning 27yo in July.
·
Education (undergraduate institution, GPA, major - high school/entrance exams not needed): Higher School of Economics (one of the top Russian universities - we do have some HBS alumni, Major: International Economy & Politics. GPA: 3.8). I have got diploma with honors from both BA (2014) & MA (2016) - the latter completed in parallel to my full-time work - this is a standard in Russia. I've also completed a scientific postgrad in parallel to my work in Russia (in the last semester I had to fly from Germany for my final exams). This gave me a scientific title that you ought to attain in Russia in order to e.g. hold lectures at Russian universities without getting a PhD. I thought when I am old some day it would be nice to keep up with the youth:)
·
GMAT or GRE (include section breakdown): I have so far only taken timed official prep having scored 710-730 (Q49, V39) - I will wait for test-centers to be open again as I don't fancy the online version.
.
Work experience (highlight amount of work experience, industries, roles, promotions, special accomplishments, international exposure):- I have almost 6 years of full work experience in the automotive industry at Mercedes-Benz Corporation (2014 - 2020). I started out in the Moscow office in 2014, got promoted to a senior specialist after 1,5 years. In this role I was responsible for project management for a XX mn EUR project in the area of operations. I volunteered to give a training on Russian culture and business ethics for the whole international project team the other day. I was the nominee for the Employee of the year 2016. I have completed my project sucessfully and as a result in 2017 I got a chance to relocate to the headquarters in Germany. I have been living and working in Germany for 2+ years and speak fluent German. I am currently working in the area of electric mobility as a product manager. During my first project here in Germany I managed the rollout of charging infrastructure in our dealerships in 33 markets. Right now, I am coordinating the development of a software for electric vehicles to be launched worlwide. In all my projects I have been managing local and international colleagues in a matrix organization. I do not have any direct reports per se though. I am also performing well in corporate management development program, which is a prerequisite in our company to get a management position. My recommenders will be 2 most recent senior managers. In 2 years I could get such a position here, but I am thinking of changing my career path.
· Extracurricular activities (highlight notable undergraduate and post-undergraduate ones):- BA time (2010-2014): the University debating club member & organizer. I've got several awards won in national championships held in Russian & English.
- During MA (2014 - 2016) I did not do too much extracuricullar as I was working full time and had my classes from 7pm to 11 pm.
- Nowadays I am passionate about sharing my knowledge about soft skills. I am training my peers on personal efficiency, time management and emotional intelligence. I am doing this in the form of free webinars. Amids the corona outbreak I have decided to morally support my big family - we are scattered around the globe and the crisis hinders us from traveling and seeing each other. I am now giving them (8 people!) online group English classes featuring travel vocabulary to keep the spirits up and prepare them for all the best travels which are yet to come! Seeing that it makes them smile despite being locked down is one of the most rewarding experinces I have ever had.
- I am also keeping up with the Russian community here in Germany and for my German colleagues I have organized a group travel to Russia to show around my motherland:) This was a blast!
- I am enjoying edurance sports mostly running & mountaneering. I have run a couple of half marathons, climbed 4k+ meter high mountains e.g. Mont Blanc. These experiences set my mind adrift and help me to recharge batteries.
. Post-MBA goals: I am willing to go to an a NGO. My absolute dream is Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. I love people, I am experienced in managing interdisciplinary teams and tech-projects and I want to give something back to the world, which has been kind to me so far:)
· Target schools: Harvard, Columbia, Yale, Kellogg's.
· Other information relevant to your profile: I was born in a little town in mid-Russia and have made a tough way to where I am now. I keep this courage of aiming high and this is also one of the reason why I am pursuing an american MBA - I very much relate to an "American dream" idea. I am tremendously enjoying the international exposure and I am passionate about learning and exchanging ideas. The headqarters of my company was not as "international" as I hoped for it to be and I am slightly scared to spend my whole life in one industry. One of my big motivations as well is to speak up as a Russian voice: while living abroad I noticed that there is a lot of misconceptions or simply outdated impressions about Russia probably tracing their history back to Soviet times. Hence, I am striving to show how open-minded, well-educated and passionate is the young generation of Russians - not only me! I am also very motivated to showcase to other Russian students that nothing is impossible if you work hard to fulfill your dreams. Sorry, if I am being too romantic or too much of a maximalist but this is what truly drives me every day:)
Thank you for reading and reviewing my profile. I am interested about my chances to get admitted to the named scools provided that I perform similarly on real GMAT as I did on the official prep tests. If you could name some other schools where I might have good chances, I would appreciate the advise too.
