Background: 3 years in Risk Management at a large Investment Bank with considerable brand equity; helped save a cumulative sum of $0.5 billion. 2.5 years founding a FinTech start-up, scaling, growing it into a $3M company that saved investors $1M and selling it for 5x projected revenues.
Extracurriculars: Published writer, Performer in Broadway-style shows, Non-profit co-founder and CFO

Undergrad school/major: Bachelors of Technology [Engineering; non-Tier1 school]
Age at matriculation: 25

Undergrad GPA: 66% [~ 3.1/4.0]
MBA Info:
Goal: Early-stage Venture Capital for a few years to work with high-growth tech companies and help them solve problems of scale. FinTech entrepreneurship in the long term. (Already have a sense of what I want to build.)
Applying to: Sloan, Haas, Ross, YSOM, Anderson, Stern (Schools with Entrepreneurship + Finance focus)
Note: I’m aware that undergrad and demographic are my main challenges. Having just sold my start-up, I have a fairly narrow window in which to apply to B-Schools. I don't think I can reapply next year, thus I'm a bit paranoid about my target schools. Do I have a decent shot at being considered? Should I aim lower? Can I afford to aim higher and add another T-10 school such as Tuck?
I've been wrestling with the idea of swapping out NYU for Emory or Georgetown as a safer "safe" school.

Hi there!
Yes, I agree with your challenges, but your work background is less traditional and impressive, considering the growth of your company. Schools will really value that experience and what you've learned from launching and scaling a venture. Sounds like you have some great ECAs too, especially creative ones that are a bit less traditional too. The GPA will be a challenge, especially within your demographic, but your strong GMAT does help with that.
I think Sloan and Haas are the toughest ones on your list, though they are both excellent fits with your goals so give them a shot. If you must go next year, I lean towards playing it safe and applying to something outside the top 15 (Georgetown, USC, McCombs, Foster, etc.). I don't think and hope you don't need that, but that's what a safety is for! Otherwise, I think if you execute your applications well, and tell interesting stories about your background, you should do well.

Thank you so much for your response! It's given me some much-needed peace of mind. If I could ask a quick follow up question: I did consider experimenting with T-25 schools such as Olin or USC but the problem is that while they are good schools, they typically are not feeders to the VC industry; this doesn't align with my short-term goal. While ranked lower than others, Stern doesn't seem a safe "safe" school, and schools ranked below it don't align with my goals. What do you suggest I do? I'm struggling to fill my "safe" school spot.
