Hi

I'm in quite a pickle at the moment where I have to choose between 2 programs and am not able to decide. I was hoping if a some of you could provide your inputs on pros and cons of both:

1) Emory University, Goizueta Business School
- Good Scholarship
- Good Location
- Reputation in consulting/marketing

2) UNC, Kenan-Flagler Business School
- Okay Scholarship (overall program cost over Emory will be almost 40k as I'm an international candidate and not an NC resident)
- Better reputation of program, faculty, and network.
- Known for consulting and general management

Now I have to choose between them. I'm really not picky about the markets or location I will be working in. The most important factors to me in recruitment are the job opportunities and quality. My goals are to work in the technology space in analytics/product management with a backup in consulting (again focused on the tech side). Both are great in leadership development with UNC maybe holding a slight edge. If anyone can throw light on this dilemna, it'll be great.

Hi,
I know the dilemma that you live in. I will try to help. I'm international students like you but with different path.

UNC is higher brand than Emory. This lead to high access and network and maybe higher starting salary. You need to go deep to see numbers in both schools. Also It depends on the place you want to end up living. If you review Emory report on its website you will see 62% of its grad recruited in south.

from other perspective, you need to know probability of international student to be in product management. You can find info in career management sites or even contact them. You can also contact the clubs.

Finally, The class size in Emory is less than UNC. I know that finance is maybe an obstacle. If you choose Emory, it isnot bad at all. Sometimes people stick to brand without paying attention to other aspects.

I have download many career report from UNC (actually detailed reports) and Emory. if you want the, just PM me.

Good luck

Edit

As I have received many PM for sharing the report for UNC and Emory, I gladly decide to upload the reports to help ans support your decision. I encourage all students to see KF excel sheet as you can filter any data you need. It will help international students a lot.

I wish you all success in you MBA journey

I chose Goizueta because 1) you are open geographically and Emory is the biggest fish in Atlanta's pond 2) financial considerations and 3) I really enjoyed the school when I visited and I like Atlanta. Job prospects should be similar but I agree that UNC's network may edge out Emory's.

Thank you rexman.

I'd also like to ask you what your opinion would be if finances were not a concern. For my career aspirations that is.

I would PERSONALLY go with Emory but they're really close. If I were in that position I would try to visit both and get a good feel for both schools.

I can not vote. I think offers are on par.
If you are afraid on taking significant debt burden, choose Gouizeta.
If you believe that a $40k difference is less than difference in reputation, job opportunities and future career perspectives - choose UNC.
I did not apply to Goiuzeta mainly due to the fact that it has small class and I dont like Coke, lol :-D

So fellas, I've finally picked Goizueta. I'll be matriculating here after a tough choice. I'd still say it's only 99% confirmed, as I'm still wishfully hoping for that 1% chance Sloan admits me!

Cheers and thanks for all your help!

razordude1717 you have a 750 in GMAT. I assume you must be a smart guy and must have worked on your application too but still you have a few very surprising reject or waitlist results for your profile. What do you think could have gone wrong?

I don't know... maybe because I'm an international candidate from India in an IT role? We are a dime a dozen to be honest. Also, I have less than 3 years of experience. Trust me, I frankly feel I'm lucky to get the admits/WLs which I have. The GMAT is not everything unfortunately.

I've been accepted to Gouzieta as well with a very good scholarship. I contacted a few students and the community is just amazing. The class size is small and every faculty member knows you by name. And, by the way, Goizueta ranked first (!) among US schools in terms of employment - career center is extremely supportive and engaged in the whole process.

I will probably reject the offer though. Inclined to accept Cornell offer
