Just put in my app for INSEAD (Jan 2017 intake) and got an admit from IESE.
While it might be premature to discuss the two options at this point, I wanted to hear your thoughts assuming I get an admit from INSEAD as well since the deposit deadline for IESE is approaching.
Here are my objectives and what I think about the two schools.
Goals:
+ Work in Europe post-MBA (US citizen that doesn't speak a second European language fluently yet)
+ Post-MBA role: open-minded but leaning toward consulting or biz dev/strategy in tech, entertainment, or cpg at the moment and entrepreneurship long term (background in entrepreneurship and online marketing)
+ Go to an international and diverse school with a close-knit, helpful, and vibrant alumni community
IESE
+ Smaller class size -> family atmosphere and tight relationship with your classmates
+ Opportunity to learn Spanish - I'm not aiming to be in a Spanish-speaking country, but it will be helpful anyway
+ 2yr format allows for more time to think about which industry to switch over to/internship opportunity
- Intense 1st yr academically and has no grade non-disclosure policy
- Brand recognition not as great as INSEAD and thus could potentially pose an issue for recruiting and down the line if I want to go back to the US?
INSEAD
+ Higher ROI vs IESE because of 1yr format
+ Consulting juggernaut
+ Great reputation in Europe
- 1 year might not be enough time to evaluate opportunities thoroughly for a career switcher?
- Not sure how good their career services is for navigating jobs outside of the traditional industries like consulting/banking?
Since I've worked in both the US and Asia, the main objective is to work in Europe post-MBA. Would you say one school is particularly better/worse than the other in helping you secure a position in the region?
Thanks everyone for your input!
