Hi everyone,
Hoping for some opinions here. I have been admitted to both Kelley (IU) and Krannert (Purdue) and must now decide where to go!
Background: I did my undergrad at Purdue in Selling & Sales Management. Went to Australia for four years working in Operations for a dvd-vending machine company. Came back in August ’15 to help family with their real-estate business and do a few renovations myself.
Post-MBA – Management consulting with a larger firm with international offices so that we can transition outside of the US again if we want.
Krannert:
They have offered a GA for both years that waves tuition and provides a stipend to put towards school. They have also offered a scholarship. Total school costs would be ~$6,500 plus living expenses. Averaging the ratings from the top ~7 systems, puts them at an average of #47 (FT, US News, P&Q, Top MBA, Economist, Forbes, Bloomberg)
Kelley:
They have offered a $10,000 scholarship each year. I would pay ~$35,000 out of pocket plus living expenses. Kelley’s program is 2.5-3x larger, which I view as a positive. Kelley has been the most active program I have seen, and it seems to be set up incredibly well.
Employment:
According to the employment reports from both schools Kelley places about 23% of students in consulting with a median salary of $135k and bonus of $25k. Krannert places about 16% in consulting, average salary of $101k and bonus of $16k.
Should I hate consulting, general management would be the back-up plan. Very similar wages and Kelley places about 12.5% of students into general management versus Krannert’s 6%.

Did Krannert lose some positions in the rankings? They appear to be #53 based on US News... i thought they were higher up before.
My main concern is a the review written by this moderator who has gone to Krannert: https://gmatclub.com/reviews/comments/kr ... -345350086 - he was not very happy with the school or the career services help he received. Grated, he was an international applicant, but still, he has had consulting background pre-MBA and getting back in post MBA was an uphill battle. I would suggest chatting with some of the Krannert students and checking in about their experience. Their employment rate is 64% at graduation, not something one could be proud of....

Congrats for admit
I would choose certainly Kelley. I know both well. Over years Krannert program admits smaller and smaller classes. However, the employment report does not reflect good recruitment percentage for domestic students. Their employment report is always unclear. Maybe it is proved by number above mentioned by bb. The level of management electives are not compared to Kelley. Even the consulting club is not that powerful. Two year ago, I was in contact with the consulting club president who sent me presentation and resources for their club which was not attractive at all compared to other schools. To be fair, Krannert is still powerhouse for operation and supply chain.
Kelley has the concept of consulting academy which will support your transition from consulting. It is powerful privilege to equip you with cases, guests, visits....etc. You can even be different. I was in contact with consulting academy co-director who mentions that Kelley has good access to second tier such Deloitte, Accenture, EY..etc but MBB does not recruit directly from school. However, some students can make their own way to MBB. Management track is packed with strong electives that provide you with knowledge. You can combine with certain electives from strategy, marketing and business analytic..etc to help you shape your experience. This clearly will help you for general management in case your first dream job does not come true.
P.S.: both schools does not have strong name outside USA. Ironically, I know some people who consider Purdue University in France
