Excel template to evaluate MBA offers.

Question

Hi all,

As round 2 results will be released soon, many of us will need to face a complex choice: which schools to pick?

There are so many quantitative and qualitative factors to consider. Scholarship. Tuition fees. Living expenses (during academic year and also year round). School brand name. Program fit. Etc...

Has anyone made an excel spreadsheet to help with the decision and comparison?

You're welcome. It's not my file but I think most people would find it helpful. I agree that cost is another important factor that is missing from the template but according to her it's not a major factor in the long run. Personally, I think it's an important factor for me though but right now I'd be happy to get into any school that I applied too. :cry:

I love the idea - thank you  yodboy  for suggesting it.

This spreadsheet seems a bit soft for a spreadsheet. I am not even asking much - how about a number in there? Seems more of a cozy mindmap than a spreadsheet.

I would definitely add some of the financials (tuition, fees, living expenses), as well as school stats - number of courses/electives that you care enouogh about though make sure these are offered and not just offered once every 4 years, employment stats - you can get carried away here too, ranking of a city/area - e.g. I would probably prefer California to Michigan but then if I had all my family living in Michigan.... then definitely California. How about just good old raw rankings - perhaps an average over the last 5 years in case this is Yale or Stern and whatever else works for you.

Yes, that is a good idea.
I have another spreadsheet that I use when I'm deciding which program to apply to.
The employment stat (in my case ratio of students that go to MBB firms) and number of local alumni in linkedin are 2 criteria that I would add.

Thanks for your input.

Last night, to distract myself from the agony of the wait, I've made the attached file for myself.

Sheet 1 is very detailed in terms of costs for 2 years. I excluded the costs in the 3 summer months, assuming internship salary can cover it.

I'm waiting for the result from Duke/Darden/Booth. So I don't have any scholarship details to put into those schools yet.

Sheet number 2 is where I put key measures and weight and assign scores.

Would be happy if you can share your view regarding the file.
