The school are peers - have you looked into which has an investment club? I think Emory had an investment fund/club.

Perhaps abhimahna can weigh in? :)

Have you done admit weekends and talked to current students about IP/PE/Finance/Investment Clubs and potentially playing a role there? (Keep in mind that clubs tend to be selective and the best ones are the most selective as they get the most applicants; so a fact a school has an investment fund, does not mean you will get in).

P.S. You did not give a lot of other info to really go on. Not that I am asking for it but if you are wondering why some of the replies short, that is most likely why.

O appreciate it. I have talked to students from all 4 schools. But looking at current admits....I enjoyed visiting vandy and everyone I met there was great. Definitely seems like an awesome culture and amazing city. With that being said, I feel like Emory might be the stronger program. Students at Emory were very helpful as well but I am having a hard time reading the culture. Any input would be appreciated.

Congrats on some great options. I think UNC will be the strongest if that works out, but Emory is right there with them. There is a fairly significant drop off to Vandy IB recruiting, though somebody on this forum indicated they had a successful internship round this year. They may be on the upswing but given the wider networks of UNC/Emory it would be difficult to justify. Indiana has strong undergrad representation but almost no MBA level recruiting (fewer than 5 people in the last class). Cross that off the list.

UNC = Emory >>Vandy>>>>>Indiana

^ for IB.

Any particulars for the Vandy vs. Emory cultures or just general feelings?

To be honest it is more of a feeling. If anyone anything to add regarding Emory's culture, please comment. Vandy just seems very welcoming and has great school spirit. I dont have enough experience with Emory to make the comparison. And i loved the idea of living in Nashville but there are also pros to living in a larger city like Atlanta. kinda torn.

And regarding Kelley - I assumed this was the case. was more of a safety for me.

Culture is definitely important, perhaps more so when deciding among peers however. I think Emory/UNC maintain a tier above and specifically deeper IB networks, so you'll have to weigh that. Wish I could speak more to Emory's culture. Have you been able to connect with students? I would ask about intern (summer associate 2019) placement firms/total numbers/% of people who wanted. Do the same for Vandy so you can at least compare apples to apples.

yes i have and everyone has been helpful. both schools placed 18-19 students this summer. This is a record for vandy and seems closer to normal for emory.

Are you referring to Vandy and Emory as peer schools or Emory and UNC?

Out of the choices, UNC KF is strongest in IB. They have a really fantastic and helpful investment management club, they have a really cool capital markets labs that has one of the biggest funds (around 12m) that students can play with. I would scratch out Kelley as they are not a major feeder in IB. Owen is good but in my opinion it is a tier below Emory & UNC. Keep in mind, that UNC also owns Charlotte Investment Banking and sends a good amount of people to NYC too. If you look at Emory's report, 60% stays in the south and UNC's class is far more geographically dispersed. This to me is really important as it shows the reach of network. Go with UNC here.

Sorry, I should have been clearer. I was referring to Emory and UNC as peers.

If you can get off the waitlist for Kenan-Flagler that would be your best bet for career goals. If you don’t get off the waitlist, Emory is the next strongest program in finance.

Hi,

abhimahna is an Emory's representative and can speak well and very responsive but I assume now he has final exams. I think he will answer asap.

You may PM him too.

Unc kept me on the waitlist so I’m going to count them out at this point. Just between Owen and Goizueta. Leaning Goizueta.
