Hi everyone, I'm in a weird situation.
I was an R1 admit to Oxford's MBA program (no scholarship, yet), and I have already paid the $12,500 deposit. For my personal goals as a US citizen wanting to work in the UK/Dubai post-grad in consulting, Oxford makes sense to me as my first choice - especially with the new Student Visa allowing you to work 2 years after graduation. Oxford's R1 application round is way earlier than US schools, so I had to accept the offer before US school offers came out.
I was not expecting much from other schools, but Vanderbilt came out with a curveball offer of $76,000 ($38,000/yr)!! I was not expecting any scholarships at all, let alone 61%. That makes Vandy's total tuition $49,500 which is less than Oxford (even after counting opportunity cost differences between 1 and 2 year programs).
FWIW - of all the schools I talked to, I really vibed with the students and faculty at both schools so culture fit is equal, however, Oxford's larger, more global cohort and that once in a lifetime uniquely Oxford experience has a particular draw to it. Vanderbilt seems like so much fun, but I have already had that "all american" football school/fraternity experience during my undergrad and Vanderbilt seems too familiar to me. I am also afraid I will be confined to a Nashville, Atlanta or other Southern-based consulting firm - which isn't horrible, but I get more of an obvious worldly vibe from Oxford.
My question is, has anyone tried negotiating for scholarship even after they already accepted an offer to a school? Any advice as to what to do here?
