Hi,

Not sure if anyone has the same experience before, but my interviewer only allocated 1hr for the interview and preferred to do it virtually at 8am even though we were in the same country and I had offered to travel to somewhere convenient for her. She also took quite long to reply to emails when fixing the interview slot, and we are only having the interview after the deadline (though to be fair we only got matched 1.5 weeks before the deadline). The regional manager has been informed that we will need more time.

However, I am very concerned that my interviewer might not really fill in my evaluation form elaborately and affect my chances of admission/scholarships. I have my interview on Thursday, but I am not sure if I should try asking for another interviewer... Not sure if I am overthinking too, but most of the alums/current students that I spoke to had in-person interviews that is about 1.5 to 3 hours even, like very casual friendly vibes, but mine seems really busy..

Has anyone met with such situations before? Would greatly appreciate the advice.

Hey I had the same issue. We weren’t in the same city but my interview lasted for about 1 hour only. Not sure if that’s a bad indication

okay I see. Thanks for sharing! Mine was actually in the same city, and we are a small city so travel is like <1 hr and I offered. So was a bit concerned.. Have you gotten your result?

I think just tell this to your Regional Manager, as my Regional Manager is very helpful, even he managed to follow up our interview schedule and offering an extended period (not taken because the interview already taken).

LBS interviews are usually meant to be an hour long. a 3 hour interview is an anomaly than the norm. Frankly, I can't fathom why an interview should go on for 3 hours- the interviewer probably has too much time on hand.
I think you should go into the interview with a more confident mindset - spending more time on the interview does not necessarily mean drawing excellent insights on the interviewer's part. One hour should be enough for them to have a detailed discussion with you, wrap up the small case question and have enough material to write in the report.

At best you may want to tell the regional manager that this is an online interview and both of you are in the same city, not as a complaint, but as an update.

Hi TiffanyCheong ! Your concern is understandable, but based on past trends, there’s no need to worry or request a different interviewer at this stage. Virtual interviews are becoming more common, especially with busy alumni, and interview durations can vary without impacting your chances. While many LBS interviews are longer and more casual, a structured 1-hour virtual interview is not unusual. Scheduling delays also happen frequently, and since the regional manager is aware, it shouldn’t affect your application. A less responsive or busier interviewer doesn’t necessarily mean a weaker evaluation, many alumni take their role seriously and provide fair assessments. Instead of requesting a switch, focus on preparing strong, concise responses, engaging proactively, and following up professionally to leave a strong final impression. Many candidates with similar situations have still received offers and scholarships, so the best approach is to focus on performing well in the interview rather than worrying about logistics. TiffanyCheong - I wouldn't read too much into it. The interviewer might just be busy, and conducting online interviews (even if within the same city) have become common especially since Covid.

As long as you perform well in the interview and strike a connect with the interviewer, it should be good. All the best!

Interviewers are busy people, but they are still dedicated to evaluating prospective candidates for their alma mater. Rest assured that what the interviewer has been assigned to get out of you during the interview will be done appropriately and will be submitted to the school in the most apt manner possible. You should focus on planning for the interview, and I feel that doing a thorough background check (on LI, public domains etc) on the interviewer is a very important part of preparation so you can bring up commonalities during the interview discussion and make a personal connection with her. Prepare stories that she could possibly resonate with and get her to sway the adcom's decision in your favor. I strongly suggest not requesting an interviewer change (and for no major fault of hers), as this will reflect on your personality as a lack of confidence. Trust that the interviewers and the admissions officers are really good at what they have been assigned to do, and no effort from your side will go unnoticed during the interview process.

As Namita mentioned, a conversation lasting more than 2 hours is an anomaly rather than the norm.
