If it is just the GMAT, It will be enough to know that the comparison is intact only in C and all others are faulty. So tick C and keep going without bothering about the accompaniments. The mention of bodies or body is just to hoodwink the candidate away from the comparison

I think the factor which makes C correct is the use of 'as' instead of 'like'. The latter is used for comparing two nouns. Here, we are not comparing nouns but rather the fact that mammals also have clustered nerve cells.

I got the correct answer (C) and I know why it is correct. But is 'body' correct considering that 'arachnids' is plural? Shouldn't it be 'bodies'?
