Except for you and I, everyone brought a present to the party.

A. Except for you and I, everyone brought -> We need object noun me
B. With exception of you and I, everyone brought -> We need object noun me
C. Except for you and I, everyone had brought -> We need object noun me
D. Except for you and me, everyone brought -> Correct
E. Except for you and me, everyone had brought -> Past perfect had is not required

We need object as "You and me", not subject "I" -> Everyone brought a present except for you and me. --> D

IMO D
you and me are objects.
I shouldnt be used instead of me.

Option E is wrong because it has "had" in the sentence which is incorrect.

Except for you and I, everyone brought a present to the party.

A. Except for you and I, everyone brought
B. With exception of you and I, everyone brought
C. Except for you and I, everyone had brought
D. Except for you and me, everyone brought
E. Except for you and me, everyone had brought

C and E are wrong for using past perfect tense. B is again wrong for A and D are better. Between A and D, A is correct since 'you and I' is subject here.

IMO Answer A.

Except is a preposition that needs an object. The choices A, B, and C, which use the subject pronoun - I- are wrong. Between D and E, the use of past perfect had brought is wrong in E. D is the choice

After "except for", subjective form of Noun/Pronoun comes and no need to change the tense structure.

The confusion here is between subject pronoun (I) and object pronoun (me).

We need to know that the right pronoun here is the object pronoun. In this sentence, 'everyone' is the subject and 'expect' needs object pronouns. There is no need to use ‘had brought’ in this sentence. Thus, D is the right answer.

Hope this helps!

This question was very easy for me.
After preposition an objective form of pronoun is must. That's why option A,B & C is eliminated.
Now remain options D & E. Here had shouldn’t come according to sequence of tense so option E also eliminated . So option D is the right answer.

Hi GMATNinja

My concepts on You and I vs You and Me are not clear.
Do you have any article or youTube video where this concept is covered.

Thanks,
Payel.
