I was pretty disappointed to see the letter when it came in, assuming it was tantamount to rejection. However, people's reactions to the waitlist seem to be mixed. What are your guys' impressions? Is there a realistic chance of getting off of it?

Should a 48% yield rate work in our favor or is that potential benefit effectively illusory?

Hi everyone,

I took the opportunity to create a new thread to discuss overall waitlist strategies in the link below. It's called  Waitlist Strategy: It's Admission Purgatory but not Admission Hell :devil

waitlist-strategy-it-s-admission-purgatory-but-not-admission-hell-191736.html#p1470290

I hope people share their input and get through this process together!

Hi everyone,
I just wanted to share my story with you. I am a full-time Stern student now (class of 2016) and was admitted after being wait listed. Briefly my stats - 28 yo female, highest GMAT score 710 (after 3 attempts), GPA 3.5 from a regular public university, 5 years of work experience for a Fortune 100 company as an accountant/fanancial analyst/auditor. So nothing extremely impressive. I had my interview at Stern at the end of December (I think December 18 or 19) and then about 2 weeks later a got wait listed. So I knew that I was waitlisted at the beginning of January. I got an acceptance letter on April 30 - so 4 months later. During this period of 4 months I did a lot of things - first I sent them an update that I was recognized in company's newsletter for a training in Russia that I led in November (not a big thing, but I figured anything would work and thus sent it in as an update). Then I attended an annual Stern Women In Business Conference in February and sent an update about that as well (basically told them that I went there and what I learned and who I've met, etc.), then I also volunteered in NYU-wide annual entrepreneurship festival and sent an update about that as well. I also kind of knew what went wrong in my interview - my interviewer was kind of tough and I went blank when I was answering her questions - especially when she asked why I want to switch into a new career. So I consider my interview at Stern a failure. So I figured that in my interview I failed to clearly explain why I want to switch and when I decided that that's what I want to do with my life. So I sent them one more essay explaining what I want to do, why I want to switch, and when I realized it. Finally, I prepared a power point presentation called "why I will succeed?" where I basically in a creative way explained why I believe I will succeed in my new career and why Stern will help me with that. So as you can see I have done a pretty extensive list of things between being wait listed and accepted and it worked! My advise is though - do not overdo this! You should send you updates every 3-4 weeks, not more cuz you can annoy them with your updates too soon. Be careful with your updates, but definitely try to do as much as you can between now and their final decision! Hope this helps and good luck with your journey!

Hi! Does anyone know the deadline that admitted Stern students (class of 2017) have to submit their deposit by? I applied R3 and was wait-listed. I am trying to figure out when deposits are due for already admitted students, as this will play a role in the timing of my updates to Stern. I have searched online and can't find any info. (I was told by a current Stern student--who was admitted off the wait-list--that updates should be sent in before the deadline for those admitted to pay their deposits.) Out of curiosity: is there only one deadline, or does it mirror the rounds? Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks!

Hi,

Has anyone been able to get an interview from stern after being waitlisted without an interview?

I am R2 applicant who was waitlisted without an interview.

I was waitlisted without interview after R1. I sent in another recommendation, wrote an update letter about my job/explained my iffy GPA, and completed MBA Math and sent the transcript. I received an interview invite on 2/12, interviewed on 2/28, and got my acceptance on 3/10.

Congratulations! Could you provide some base stats (i.e. work exp/yrs/gmat)? What is MBA Math?

Any movement for the R2s yet?

GMAT: 690. GPA: 3.1 at a top ten school. Work experience: 5 years. I'm trying to get into VC/tech, and I come from a consulting firm.

MBA Math is an online course that some B schools make new admits do for orientation. It's just a crash course in accounting/econ/corp finance/excel. I was an English major in college, so I figured I needed to show Stern that I could handle quant classes.

Dear all: I scored 700 on the GMAT (43Q/42V) and got waitlisted 2 weeks ago... :-(

In order to show them I can handle Quant subjects on the MBA Program, do u guys think I should retake the test or enroll online Math classes such as MBA Math ?

I'm a 30 years old Brazilian lawyer with a 7-year work experience:
3 years working as a lawyer; and
4 years working both as a CEO and as a Board Member.

Tks.

Thanks so much for this. This is very helpful. I am 670, Q48 and V34. If I retake it, I am not sure how much better can I do in a timely manner on my verbal. I submitted a recommendation from an alum and also sent a letter explaining my interest. I haven't heard back yet. I really want Stern and I am wondering if at this point I should just go ahead and give GMAT again?

Hello fellow wait-listers,

I understand that the deposits for admitted students were due on April 20, and thus I expect that the Ad Comm has been and will be reviewing the wait list in the coming weeks. I have been hoping to hear good news from Stern (I've sent in a few update letters, additional recommendations, transcript for a Finance Math class, etc.), but nothing yet.

(I was wait listed after applying R3, with no invitation to interview.)

Has anyone on the wait list heard from the Admissions Committee recently?

Thanks
