Hi All,
I gave my GMAT two weeks back and could score only 590 Quant 47, Verbal 25. I was so shocked that for awhile I thought that it is some sample score coming up on the screen! I have been thinking to nail the GMAT since past 4 years but the actual and serious preparation started few months back (November 2015). I was religiously following a 60 Day GMAT schedule(had given it a try few months prior to that but left it midway after completing most of quant) and GMAT Prep now free video course (I had previously covered Manhattan quant books when i was on and off).
Coming to the approach, I focussed on Quant first as per the 60 day schedule (I covered OG2016and GMAT Prep now quant video course in November), followed by that I picked up Verbal and went through the Manhattan SC book and Powerscore CR book religiously in December along with GMAT Prep now videos (did not do much of RC except OG set).
I was solving the OG problems in their online portal to simulate the computer-based environment, I did all the OG2016 problems along with the official Verbal and Quant supplement books. Apart from this I also watched the Manhattan 7 week Video course. I had initially planned to give exam in January but delayed it to March due to some personal issues + I was not very confident as of then.
Coming to tests I gave overall 7
Nov 3,2015 GMAT Prep 1 580 (Q42 V27)
Dec 6,2015 GMAT Prep 1 Retake 650 (Q49 , V31)
Dec 27,2015 Manhattan CAT 1 600 (Q41, V32)
Feb 2, 2016 Manhattan CAT 2 630 (Q44,V32)
Feb 25, 2016 Manhattan CAT 3 590 (Q42,V31)
Feb 27,2016 Veritas 1 570 (Q43, V26)
March 6 GMAT Prep Exam 2 660 (Q44, V36)I am a typical "Indian" guy from Engineering background but here is the thing - I am not so comfortable with Quant so 47 might have had some luck factor, infact I had a feeling that I messed up quant section and even from preparation perspective I had focussed much on verbal, especially since December.
I was kind of rushing through the exam but I do not feel that had much of impact, might be! (I had around 10 minutes remaining in Verbal and I guess 7 mins in Quant - looks like I took the Guess and move on strategy too seriously). Other soft reason could be some issues I was facing on personal front in past 2 months that was not letting me give my best with a free mind.
Coming to the point, I am confused and a bit low on confidence on how to fight back, I am aiming a 730+ score, time is not an issue and I can devote 4-5 hours daily. I guess I should target June end-July mid so that I have time to apply for First round of Next years batch.
Should i go over all the material I studied all over again, how should I mix up practise tests and what is the best way to move ahead, not to forget I am very low on Verbal confidence now (Thanks to the wonderful score),
I am thinking of reviewing Quant and Verbal in parallel this time (3 hours Verbal - 2 hour Quant daily and would relax on Sunday so that I do not get exhausted.)
Verbal 3 hours:
Will pick up Manhattan SC for the first 2-3 week (any suggestions on practise questions i should use along with it?), followed by Powerscore CR and maybe will give a look to Manhattan CR too, RC - I am thinking of giving it an hour daily, not very sure on best way to tackle it yet).
Quant 2 hours:
Will go through Manhattan guides and GMAT Prep now course.
Will also re-watch Manhattan Video sessions on weekends.
Other supplements I plan on using:
Manhattan OG companion, Prep4GMAT and
Manhattan Prep Apps, OG and Supplemental OGs, GMATclub forum questions (any directions on how to make the best out of the forum questions? I do get a practise set daily of 5 questions which I monitor via My workbook)
Thanks for patiently reading this long query,
Regards.
