This was my 6th and Final GMAT attempt. For the debriefs of previous attempts, please refer to my previous posts.

I was a bit disheartened with my GMAT score. I am happy with my Quant Score of 49, which is in line with my practice exam scores. But my verbal score of 33 was disappointing as i was consistently scoring higher than 35 in all my mocks. In my 1st GMAT attempt ever, two years ago, I had achieved the same Verbal Score of 33 and a Quant Score of 46, leading to an overall Score of 640.

The initial questions in Quant were very easy, post question number 13, I started getting tough ones and probably made a few mistakes then. I did not get any combination, Time Rate work or standard deviation problem this time. I did not see any exponent question as well. In my past 5 attempts, I had got one question or more from all these topics. This is thought provoking.

I had been working hard consistently for Verbal, but somehow on the day of the final attempt, some CR questions were mind boggling and I felt that more than 1 option could have been right. I do know it is a standardised exam and the questions cannot be completely different, but this was surely noticed by me. In most of my previous GMAT attempts (all cancelled as scores were lower than my initial score of 640), I had found SC questions a bit weird, as I was unable to apply any of the standard rules to them. But this time, with more practice, I focussed on meaning as well as grammar. But from my ESR, I clearly got the initial questions wrong in verbal this time. I could not pick between the 2 close options in CR and RC inference questions. This did not happen to me for OG and Official Questions. All my GMAT Prep Exam Verbal scores were above 35. I was scoring between 680-750.

Anyway, nothing can be done now, but I was surely expecting to score atleast a 35+ in verbal, leading to an overall score of 700+
I am attaching the Screenshots of all my GMATPrep Official Practice exams, as well as my New ESR.

I had taken EmpowerGMAT 1 month course and it proved to be helpful to quite some extent. My quant score increased by 3 points. For verbal I had solved OG 2016 & 2018, GmatPrep exams and CR Bible. I had also reffered to e-Gmat SC notes, which were really helpful. But I am disappointed and clueless as I got the SAME verbal score of 33, inspite of intense additional practice in Verbal!

I am contemplating whether to start applying for MIM, or give one more GMAT attempt. My heart and mind refuse to accept the fact that 33 in verbal is an exact predictor of my level. This imbalance in Q and V scores is mind-boggling. I possess a never give up attitude.

Any opinions and guidances will be highly appreciated.

I am attaching my Official Score report as well as my latest ESR.

Thank you

Oh yes, my friend. Do go for a final attempt with a nothing to lose attitude. You really have nothing to lose.

Remember, you do have a reasonable score to go ahead and apply with.

May it be your day!

All the best!

However, I will suggest that...

- Do not repeat mocks; take new tests to avoid inflated scores.

- If you are targeting 2019 intake, start work on your apps as it is late now. Further, starting apps work will reduce the pressure of getting higher result from GMAT.

All the best!

Hi yashpopat,

Your decision to retake the GMAT should depend on the scores required for your target programs. 670 is not a bad score. Even your verbal ESR suggests gaps in CR which if fixed will fetch you the higher score you desire. This article on MIM vs MBA will help you decide between the two programs. In case you chose to retake the GMAT, you can refer to this article on Retake Strategy to devise a plan that will take you to your target score.

Hope this helps! Please feel free to write to us in case of any further queries.
