Hi there,
I have been wait listed at Kellogg and Fuqua, which was pretty disappointing. I would like to read your opinion(s) on wait list strategies and retaking the GMAT. My profile is below.
- Asian, Male, 26
- 3 years of top-tier analyst experience at a middle market investment bank
- 4 months of work experience with an emerging market non profit organization
- 5 months planned of international travel and cultural enrichment (this is new and was not included in my application)
- Big Ten University, Finance Major, 3.4 GPA
- Average leadership experience as an undergrad, tutored underprivileged students, and worked for the Provost's office
- GMAT 670 (q47 ~77% v35 ~74%)
- Target post-MBA of Investment Banking focused on emerging markets
My recommendations were written by my sector head and by a former undergraduate adviser - providing professional and extracurricular support. I have not received feedback, but I suspect my low GMAT is a big reason I sit on the wait list. Am I correct in assuming this? I would appreciate your thoughts on the matter.
Also complicating matters a bit, I am traveling at the moment - internationally for an extended period of time. I am not sure whether to sign up for an exam somewhere in Europe or developed Asia and sit for the exam in the next month (tough to study for on the road). How would not retaking the GMAT affect me?

Yes, the GMAT sounds like it is holding you back. You should make every effort to retake the exam.
