Essay Analysis & Comments I have been approached by quite a few prospective candidates asking for advice on "what's best to write for Wharton", i.e. what would the school want to hear. My personal view, reinforced by what has worked for me is to decide on what parts of YOURSELF and YOUR story you want to showcase the most, i.e. what makes you unique and valuable, and deliver that using some creative writing. The question then becomes not that of execution, because good execution does not stand in the way. The only thing that matters is then whether YOU are indeed valuable and unique. What makes you valuable and unique? My personal agenda during school visit would've always been "schmooze till you drop" in all the buildings there are. Have a plan before you go: names, classes, visits, conversations, meetings, coffee, events after classes, etc. I have been reviewing alot of veteran candidate essays and I think the key to essays is to keep things simple, honest, and compelling. There is no magic formula and the more "consultants" tell us to sprinkle in examples here and there, the more of the human element you lose. I agree it is important to show the diversity of your experiences, but I believe is is most important to reveal the person you are, your core values, and how you interact with people, resolve conflict, improve, and work to help others. After being here for nearly 2 months, I can already tell how the admissions process reflects the learning team model. Of course they want great candidates, but they are evaluating your leadership charactertistics - how do you resolve conflict, handle intense emotional events? are you conscientious aka do you step up for your team and help to resolve interpersonal disputes? are you comfortable in a variety of roles from leading to filling a supporting role? how far will you go to help your team achieve their goals? do your goals spring from your personal story and values? have your past actions matched up with your goals? what kind of personal impact do you bring here. it is alot less about filling out a formula and a lot more about openness, integrity, and telling your compelling personal story rather than impressing the committee with accomplishments i firmly believe the class is not selected solely according to accomplishments, but by selecting the best people who will create the strongest community/environment with the best possible longevity aka alumni network i know the process sucks, and you guys/girls are stressed but after you craft your essays, take a second and look at how those essays reveal who you are, what makes you tick, focus on leadership but remember leadership has many components liek the ones i referred to - openness, conscientiousness, emotional reactivity, etc PM me if you need any help, I was in your shoes last year, i definitely didnt have the most impressive stats but used my experiences to create a brand around leadership and values and it paid off Application Submission Confirmation Text Last interview questions : https://poetsandquants.com/2010/11/21/l ... al-issues/

Hi guys,

I was hoping that some of you Round 1-ers might be able to offer me some advice. I am based in Beijing and just received my invitation this morning. When I logged on to the site, all of the slots for Beijing's hub interviews were filled. Unfortunately, the interview season coincides with my annual visa renewal which means I don't have my passport and cannot travel during the next stretch while it is processed.

I wrote to Wharton's admission board already, but I was wondering if any of you encountered similar issues in round one. How did you deal with it? Will Wharton add more HUB interviews, or do they provide alternate ways to interview? Am I just S.O.L.?

Good luck to everyone still waiting, and definitely sign up quickly if you are hoping for a HUB.

Uhm, I think that you should contact the interview coordinator(s). Hopefully, they could arrange an interview that is off the offer list if the adcom is available and can extend the interview hours into the evening. Maybe they could offer alternative(s) to extenuating circumstances. Best of luck!

I am a re-applicant and was invited to an interview on the last day of invite release period last year. The system got technical problem, and somehow my email did not reach my chosen alumnus. There was no spot or alumni available in the system, and the coordinator(s) arranged for me to meet up with another alumnus in Hong Kong. We then arranged the schedule on our own.

Got my invite at 3.33PM, EST, Thursday, Feb, 2nd. My friend got the invite last Thursday, Jan, 26th. We are based in Vietnam.

Seems like invites come out on Thursday.

A quick question for those who may have come across a similar situation or know of someone who did. Last night, I received an invite to interview and by the time i checked online, all of the slots were full. However, as per the notification, interviews should last for 3 days, but on the system, it only shows 2 days, which are both full. Does that mean, either there is no 3rd day, or the 3rd day is not yet 'open'? This is probably a question for Adcom, but figured I ask here anyway.

More like there is no 3rd day. Even spots are filled up, they are shown in my system.

I think that Wharton might offer 2 days for some hub(s). The number of days varies from hub to hub, I think. Wharton offers 4 days for Singapore hub.

Wharton may send out invites to international students earlier as they need more time to organize logistics.

Or maybe some U.S.-based applicants got invites but don't show up here.

tempoguy, when I logged in, I selected Mumbai, so couldn't see the Delhi availability.
In Mumbai, the dates are 12,13&14. When I logged in, there was no slot available for 12th. For 13th, only 2 slots were available. For 14th almost 7-8 slots were available.

I got an invitation one hour ago and am wondering whether I should have the interview in the UK or in Philadelphia. Of course it is nice to visit the campus. but a flight ticket to the US is much more expensive (€500 vs. €100).

Has anyone else from continental Europe got an invitation? If so, what is your choice?

I am based in France and got an invite on January 26. I chose to do it in London, I met a round 1 admit from France who was pretty happy with the interview in London, and I don't think it's a disadvantage. I don't really know if going to Philly is a plus.

Wanted to share my experience booking my hub interview in hopes that others don't have as much stress as I did today:

Know your schedule (travel, etc) beforehand and be ready to book your interview as soon as you get the invite email. I got the email on Thursday night (GMT) and thought it would be fine to wait until the next morning to book the day/time, after I confirmed my travel schedule and made sure I wanted to interview at my hub (vs. on-campus). When I logged back on late this morning, nearly all the slots were full. After refreshing (nearly) every 5 min throughout the day, a slot finally opened up and I was able to grab it right away. Main point- know what you are doing before you even get the email! After stressing about whether you will get an invite, the last thing you want is to stress about when to interview

I got a confirmation email and if I go to search (like I'm scheduling an interview), it won't let me see the open appointments unless I cancel my current appointment.

Just to confirm, there haven't been any invites for local US R2 applicants (not including Lauder applicants).

I have not seen a single invitation from a US-based candidate applying to the 2-year MBA (non-Lauder and non-HCM). I would just sit tight. I feel confident that they haven't set them up yet for the vast majority of us 'murkins.
