Essay Analysis & Comments I have been approached by quite a few prospective candidates asking for advice on "what's best to write for Wharton", i.e. what would the school want to hear. My personal view, reinforced by what has worked for me is to decide on what parts of YOURSELF and YOUR story you want to showcase the most, i.e. what makes you unique and valuable, and deliver that using some creative writing. The question then becomes not that of execution, because good execution does not stand in the way. The only thing that matters is then whether YOU are indeed valuable and unique. What makes you valuable and unique? My personal agenda during school visit would've always been "schmooze till you drop" in all the buildings there are. Have a plan before you go: names, classes, visits, conversations, meetings, coffee, events after classes, etc. I have been reviewing alot of veteran candidate essays and I think the key to essays is to keep things simple, honest, and compelling. There is no magic formula and the more "consultants" tell us to sprinkle in examples here and there, the more of the human element you lose. I agree it is important to show the diversity of your experiences, but I believe is is most important to reveal the person you are, your core values, and how you interact with people, resolve conflict, improve, and work to help others. After being here for nearly 2 months, I can already tell how the admissions process reflects the learning team model. Of course they want great candidates, but they are evaluating your leadership charactertistics - how do you resolve conflict, handle intense emotional events? are you conscientious aka do you step up for your team and help to resolve interpersonal disputes? are you comfortable in a variety of roles from leading to filling a supporting role? how far will you go to help your team achieve their goals? do your goals spring from your personal story and values? have your past actions matched up with your goals? what kind of personal impact do you bring here. it is alot less about filling out a formula and a lot more about openness, integrity, and telling your compelling personal story rather than impressing the committee with accomplishments i firmly believe the class is not selected solely according to accomplishments, but by selecting the best people who will create the strongest community/environment with the best possible longevity aka alumni network i know the process sucks, and you guys/girls are stressed but after you craft your essays, take a second and look at how those essays reveal who you are, what makes you tick, focus on leadership but remember leadership has many components liek the ones i referred to - openness, conscientiousness, emotional reactivity, etc PM me if you need any help, I was in your shoes last year, i definitely didnt have the most impressive stats but used my experiences to create a brand around leadership and values and it paid off Application Submission Confirmation Text Last interview questions : https://poetsandquants.com/2010/11/21/l ... al-issues/

wondering if the resume error cost me, i put a ending year as 2010 as against 2011 which would lead someone to beleive that there was yrs gap on my resume!. Mailed wharton the new resume and they said they were not sure if they would consider it!!!!

the date was fine in the employment section!!! i guess all my life will keep wondering if the error cost me a chance to be at wharton or not!!!

All eyes on CBS and Ross now!

Did they email you telling you they wouldn't consider your new resume after you mailed it or you called/emailed them asking about it?

Well i called and was asked to mail instead. They replied after 3 weeks saying that they have forwarded the resume to the admissions team but cannot guarantee if it will be considered or not!

I submitted my app before the deadline and sent in the revised resume before the deadline too!

yeah to CBS submitted both apps the same day!! but they gladly accepted the new resume and even heard back from them in 2 days and the admissions person also commented in the email that do not worry this happens all the time and this will not effect your candidature

Don't worry too much. In case a bschool is too sensitive to reject candidates due to such minor errors, it's definitely not worth attending.

Keep your chin up. Today isn't the last day for invites. There will be more. We still have 12 days to go before the mid decision date and Wharton sends a good number of invites that day too. While I would definitely be sweating too if I hadn't received an invite yet I would NOT be ready to throw in the towel. Don't you do so either!

Thank you! And congrats on ISB. It's definitely a great thing to know that you'll be going somewhere in the fall no matter what happens from this point forward. I still think that there's no telling what invites Wharton will release in the next week and a half so there's no use speculating. A lot of international candidates interview on campus anyways so I'm sure they have more invites coming up.

Another week gone by and no love from Wharton. A ding without interview would definitely rock my confidence in an admit at Kellogg or Booth. Translation - painful month of waiting. I figure if I'm not in the top 40% of applicants at Wharton, then my chances of being in the top 20% at Kellogg or Booth are low. However, different adcom, different lens I suppose. Good luck to all going through interviews right now.

What are the chances we see two invite groups next week, making three remaining including Feb 28?

Hey, I thought of it the same way with my H ding vis a vis my W chances (i.e. if I'm not top 20% H, can I really be top 16% W?). I think what helped me regain my confidence and grounding are two things:

B-school admissions (unlike college admissions) is a little more arbitrary and a lot more subjective. I've seen people get into Wharton and not Columbia, Stanford and not MIT, etc.
It's not like the same 10,000 people are applying to each school. There'll be maybe a couple thousand overlapping applications between any two business schools, so it's impossible to compare "top x%" at one school vs. "top y%" at another. Business schools like different things, and more importantly, a largely different body of applicants comprise each pool.

Of course, while I would have been stoked to get an invitation at Harvard, I'm going to treat each application as its own compartment and just do the best I can.

Round 2 interviews are well underway and we look forward to meeting many of you, stateside and overseas. I am constantly inspired to see the unique talent and sheer motivation in our applicant pool. As our staff’s interview travel continues, the Admissions Committee and I look forward to engaging with you and hearing more of your stories.

We released more invitations to interview on Thursday, 16 February and we will continue to release up until Tuesday, 28 February. Again, if you have not received an invitation at this point, please do not be discouraged. Applications are not read in any particular order; interview invitations are extended as we complete each applications evaluation process. We have plenty of interview slots available on campus and we will continue to offer phone interviews for those with extenuating circumstances.

Our office will be open on Monday, 20 February for President’s Day and all campus visits and interviews will take place as scheduled. Please continue to follow our blog, as we will post further updates on office closings, interviews, Round 3 applications and our upcoming global events.

Just got a generic financial aid / planning email from Wharton, stating that International Students do not need a cosigner for their loans. I'm guessing everyone got this too, right - international and domestic?
