round1app, relax.. as i said (and i personally know one more person whose experience was like this + now even shekmba), in all probability, the questions and the interview will be driven from your resume.. someone would have had projects to discuss and hence the 'pushing' bit.. for me it was a deal.. and a pitch.. and questions around such stuff..

Off-campus.

Yes, the questions are mostly an offshoot of the resume. Know you resume well and know your experiences well. Besides that, know your leadership style and team management style. And of course the canned responses ;).

Hi guys,

I had an interview with Tiffany today. As shekmba and kapooaru have said, the interview is totally driven from your resume. So be thorough with what you have written there. Questions are largely related to your team work and leadership. Some bits about Why MBA etc. And most importantly, DO NOT stress. It was easy conversation. Just try to bring in your goals and your story. All the best.

Looking forward to 20 Dec!!!

Had a phone interview due to the fact that I am still deployed in Afghanistan. It seemed rushed and I could not really get a read on any other aspects. Asked the three base questions and we didn't go over my resume at all. It also only lasted 17 minutes. FML. Doing it over the phone is probably not so good. Hopefully there are some concessions made for that.

Round 2 applicant here. How much tougher is the competition in R2 as compared to R1 at Wharton? Do we have any numbers which indicate the acceptance rates across different rounds (as well as % of applicants invited for interview)?

Many Thanks! and best of luck to people who have been invited for an interview.

I wouldn't read too much into the length of the interview. There are a whole bunch of military guys in my class and I can tell you it's definitely a demographic that the administration wants to have represented and that is respected by the admissions department and on campus. Real world leadership is often missing from finance guys like me and you guys are brimming with it. Message me privately if you want me to connect you with any Wharton classmates to discuss further. Good luck next month!

I had my wharton interview this week with an admissions staffer. We discussed two questions and then it turned into a casual conversation about wharton, my background/interest and Philadelphia. My advice would be to make sure you're confortable and able to talk to your interests and how they apply toward wharton/mba.

Hey there.. I don't think there will be any clear #s but my sense is that R1 will take the majority easily - say 45-50% - because this is where the school will not be restricted in choice of prospective students from within cultures, professions and experience they bring.. R2 should also have a significant intake - say 30-35%.. in this round the school would have chosen quite a decent # of people - so there will be a set tone to how their class structure is looking - they will try to fill up gaps in cultural, professional and experience mix here.. R3 would obviously be the toughest and I would say would finally lead to ~15-20% intake - in this round the composition of the class would be well made already - hence it might become the toughest for certain professions and experiences..

Of course, these are #s I have been able to gather from others.. Hope it helps!

R1 and R2 are roughly even and there's no statistical difference between the two...R3 is at a huge disadvantage by comparison

I just finished my on-campus interview.

The interview followed the structure mentioned here by numerous other members and by the clearadmit wiki. The interview itself felt a lot less formal than I had anticipated and I managed to relax a bit after the first question. My advice to others would be not to worry. If you have a half decent view of what questions are coming you will be fine (at least with the campus interviews).

I also heard some rumors about the interview process changing for the next round to be less conventional (group presentations or something like that). Perhaps something to be aware of for second round applicants.

Best of luck to the other people interviewing!

Hey everyone,

Just noticed that interview percentage for this round is 32%. We all know Wharton typically interviews 40%, of which 40% are accepted. Are we seeing a change in those numbers or do gmatclub members traditionally have different percentages?

Anyone care to speculate?

Sorry - I meant that gmatclub statistics (on page 1) show that for its members for Round 1, 32% have been interviewed.

I don't like feeding this type of speculation, so here's my analysis of why you can't use that number:

1. You're assuming that everyone who originally put their names on that sheet came back when they got the invite to interview and updated their status.

2. You can't extrapolate from such a small sample to the population at large. If you took a random sample of 230 Wharton applicants and looked at the percentage who got interviews, the percentage would have a considerable range centered around 40% (assuming that's the true value). The mean standard error for that sample size is going to be considerable...so you'd have to look at a confidence interval, which would likely include 32%.

3. You're assuming that the GMAT club members who applied to Wharton are a representative sample of the total applicant pool.

My on-campus interview today was exactly like the ones at clear admit. Walk me through your resume, then 3 behavorial questions, a time when you convinced others of your opinion, a time when you lead a team and failed, a time when you dealt with conflict, and why mba abroad.

IMO, it wasn't that conversational or natural because they interviewer asked me the exact same questions as we have seen posted here and at clear admit. The most natural was def. When I asked her questions. Then my interviewer finally dropped the script and had a more natural conversation with me.

Same advice as others posted: know the experiences in your work/life that will answer the behavorial questions. I didn't get asked anything from my resume, just to walk through it. The interview was very much based on the 3 behavorial questions.

Inside Wharton's Admissions Office - What happens once applications are submitted?

Ankur Kumar, deputy director of MBA admissions at Wharton - To start with, I'd like to say that our evaluation process is very holistic. We ask a lot of information about candidates – we want to know about their academic achievements, the way they think about the world, how they present themselves, their professional development, etc.

In terms of the life cycle of an application, it is a very iterative process. Our aim is to get multiple points of view on every applicant. We have six full time admission officers who focus on the full time MBA program. We also have some contract readers, ranging from half a dozen to a dozen people, who help us as well in the admissions process and many of them are Wharton alums. We do not specialize or focus. What I value is a generalist mentality. Our population is global. They come from all different industries, many of which weren’t even around ten years ago. We all need to understand all of those things. We don’t have a sorting system that puts all the apps from one part of the world to one person....read more

An extract from the article reads "We do our best to get to people as quickly as we can. Our goal is to get to them by phone or even email if we can. Our students help as well. If they’re accepted, we want to give that personal welcome."

Do you guys think we can hope to hear from Wharton sooner than the decision release date?
