I'd have to guess that a ton of people will get in off the wait list. Wharton has a class size of 800+ and only 200 people in the facebook group, which is about half of where it should be (HBS has 430 members and a similar class size). I'd bet that the school is really trying to manage its yield / hedge quality to R2 applicants and that's why so many R1 people got wait listed and why so many will ultimately get accepted. Speculation I know but seems to make sense given the data points.
I certainly hope this is the case, although there could be other explanations too, such as Wharton may not promote the facebook group as strongly to new admits as other schools do.
I also think it's interesting that within this forum Wharton is the only school I noticed that had more WL's reported in round 1 than admits. Small sample size probably makes that irrelevant though.
