maximus - why you being so pessimistic?

For me it sounds as they havent made decisions at all for WL, no?

Actually, I was always one of the most optimistic people her but the message is pretty clear in my opinion. If Wharton had a lot of place to offer to waitlists, it would not have said that it is very competitive. What they say is basically we have limited seats for you people or maybe (unlike Harvard) we have waitlisted far more people than we can get in.

where do they say competitive??

"In short, this year’s waitlist has so far proven to be an incredibly talented group" I think this means it is competitive

Nowhere does the email draw the same conclusions as you do. I think you're being too pessimistic, even if our chances are low.

Initially, I heard that second round pool is worse than expected for many business schools but now wharton seems to say the opposite. I believe when they mean competitive they also consider the seats to offer to first round waitlist. Anyway, in the weeks we will see what happens.

HBS also sends acceptances to waitlists.
Any business day really means %3-5 chance is going away.
I hope I am wrong.
I will probably be the first person who gets waitlisted at wharton and harvard and gets rejection from both.

chin up. you'll get in both, then choose HBS, if for no other reason than to open another spot for those unfortunate enough to be handed the much-feared "Continue on Waitlist" card.

next friday can't come soon enough. let's stay positive folks. if our apps were really that bad, we wouldn't be in this position.

ok lets be positive, I am just angry with the admission process. They say they will announce on 29 - 30 mar but they call people earlier, I was waiting very patiently until I saw someone got a call, anyway, 10 days to go.

maximus, do you know anyone else but that ONE person that got a call from the WL? I know ZERO. My consultant and the consultants she knows know ZERO.

I really think they will release ALL wl results together in the end of next week. So hang in tight.

With that said, I'm in at Booth with $$$ and at Kellogg!! Such a good week for me. If Wharton doesn't want us, oh well... their loss, right? hehe

You are right, not much movement so far for wharton. In fact, I have much more faith for getting off wharton waitlist than harvard.

I'm clearly doing something wrong looking at my results....I almost think that Wharton is keeping me on the WL out of pity, since I went to Penn for undergrad. I've lost all hope that I'll hear something positive next Friday.

Also 2007, not engineering tho. I'm sure our paths crossed at one point...

I don't know, with the amount of work us engineers had.....

Anyway, no amount of Googling has told me how many people Wharton has historically taken off of the WL. Does anyone have any idea?

Re: Wharton 2012 - Calling all Waitlisters [#permalink]
I'd have to guess that a ton of people will get in off the wait list. Wharton has a class size of 800+ and only 200 people in the facebook group, which is about half of where it should be (HBS has 430 members and a similar class size). I'd bet that the school is really trying to manage its yield / hedge quality to R2 applicants and that's why so many R1 people got wait listed and why so many will ultimately get accepted. Speculation I know but seems to make sense given the data points.
