Did anyone feel the 1:1 portion was a little rushed.

To be perfectly honest, I feel like the 1:1 portion is more for our benefit (making us feel like we had a fair shot, air our concerns, etc.) than it is for the school to get more information than what they've already collected from the TBD. Of course, if the two data points are wildly different that could make a difference. But most likely not.

i felt it was fairly rushed too. to be honest, it seemed like they'd already made up their minds and were just doing this as a formality. still can't figure out how they judged us based on the team discussion (because cmon everyone will be on their best behaviour!)

I'm guessing here, but I believe there might be a checklist where they score you on different attributes (e.g. contribution, leading, being nice, listening, having a plan, et. al--all conjecture!).

Agreed that they were checking for several individual factors and the one on one was just for our closure/giving us the final word. I went last in my group so was fortunate enough to have more like 15-20 minutes. We had a brief discussion about how with traditional interviews, half of the time admissions isn't getting to hear much more than they could already discern from your resume, essays etc (assuming you presented a well rounded package). The TBD allows for some of those intangible skills to be demonstrated rather than stated.

All in all, I really liked the TBD and think it will stick around. As it was the fist year, it will be interesting to see how they use the data, but it is a definite differentiator for Wharton. I also found it refreshing to not have to talk about myself for 30-45 minutes straight. :-D

Now for the wait... If anyone here has ever competed in a judged sport (gymnastics, diving, etc) you know what I mean when I say that waiting for the final score is 1000x more anxiety inducing than any of the prep leading up to the competition or the task itself...

I received an email from reporter for a prominent national publication this morning who would like to speak with HBS and/or Wharton applicants about their application experience this year at these two programs. In the reporter's words:

This could be a great way to make a connection with a reporter with whom you would like to have a connection. Trust me. You've all heard of this publication.

You do not have to have been accepted; you do have to have reached the interview phase at either one or both schools and be willing to be quoted by name.

Don't even think about this until next Monday at the earliest (I doubt Wharton would pull an R2 Fuqua and release the Friday before). If you need to preoccupy yourself this week, Darden results come out today and Kellogg is later this week

Yeah, got it a while back- about 3 weeks ago, and a week after my interview. Subject - "Thank You for Participating in the Team-Based Discussion". Includes a brief thank you, and a rundown of financial aid/fellowships options. I don't think it's any indication of a decision- you probably got one in your spam or something like that. If not, I think it is an oversight, rather than anything to stress about.

This waiting is wreaking havoc on my nerves.

I am a big fan of the TBD, but you are correct that that Wharton wasn't the first one to do a group interview. LBS has had them and IMD has a major group case exercise as part of its application process.

I interviewed at the end of February and never received the thank you email. My interview was with an ad com member, rather than a student, if that makes a difference.
