From the GMAT club sample, Wharton accepted as many applicants as it waitlisted....somehow strange

Is there anything we can do to improve our chances or is everyone just going with the 'sit back and wait' strategy.

Noooooooooooo that doesn't add up! It's 40 percent that get interviewed and 20 percent that get admitted. Shouldn't be more than half of those that are not admitted that are wait listed. Anyhow, I'm so over trying to come up with baseless voodoo statistical correlations and odds. It is what it is.

Well, in the email that was sent out I believe they had stated to update them only if it was a new GMAT score, a new job or new course work.

I'm personally starting a new gig in about 2 weeks...its in a new field and on a different continent. I also just became an external consultant to a startup in an emerging market. Both of these things are exactly what I mentioned in my essays, so hopefully the AdCom will appreciate them.

I'll be sending Wharton an email with these updates shortly but to be honest, after sitting on the WL for a few days, and getting a decent scholarship from my other option yesterday, I'm not as fussed anymore. Even contemplating withdrawing from the WL. Will let you guys know what I end up doing.

If you have mentioned all of that in your essays, is there a reason you would send an update email?
From what little research I have done it looks like unless the updates are really significant an update might not help your case. I am not judging your updates, they are significant. In my case, I mentioned my promo and such in the 1:1 portion, so I am not planning on sending any updates. We will see how this plays out.

Is anyone else sending updates/additional recommendations?

Where did you find the information, that we could update them on a new GMAT score or a new job? I looked through several forums and Wharton states even on its own website, that it is not sure that a new GMAT score would be included in the application file of a waitlisted candidate!

Sorry, should have been more clear -- was writing very fast and did not read over that last post. Those 2 new things tie into my "Why MBA" story as they both are a logical step in the right direction towards my long-term goal, so hopefully AdCom will see progress. Hence why it would be considered a "new" addition to my app.

Oh, and I found the information in the email that was sent out on March 28th.

Not to discourage you, but in my case the schools that I got accepted into the interviews went well, and those I didn't get into (WL or Denied), I either didn't get an interview or felt that I didn't do that well. But of course I've seen cases where the opposite is true. Good Luck!

I thought I did really well on the TBD, although I also felt like it was really hard to differentiate people using the TBD, everyone came across as strong in my group. Although one uncertainty was that I didn't agree with the direction we decided to go so I sort of ended up being the
devil's advocate in a way, not sure if that came across as me not being a team player. But I thought that everything I said was valid and certainly tried to say it while still supporting what we were doing. My one-on-one, however, I thought was TERRIBLE. I really wasn't expecting it to be so unstructured so I sort of blabbed and probably made no sense. Certainly did not do anything to help myself there. Left the experience feeling good about the TBD, but like I blew it since the one-on-one was so bad.

If it is the TBD you are nervous about, I wouldn't be, I really don't see how they can differentiate people based on that, I more think it's to weed out people who act like jerks, don't have strong english skills, or are too shy to speak.

Yeah I felt the one-on-one was way too short and unstructured. Felt like it didn't really establish much of a conversation in 10 minutes.

Also - I have withdrawn from the WL, those still in the running, good luck!

Thought I did well in the TBD, my 1:1 interview was not that great. So I am not sure if there is any real chance of getting in. From what I hear from several sources, the waitlist is very very long and chances are very slim.

jmba123 - can you share your profile and big congrats on Stanford and Booth :)

Think a big part of my WL was the 1:1 interview, was too short and just didn't seem to hit it off with the interviewer. Good luck!

Re: Wharton 2013 - Calling All Waitlisted Applicants [#permalink]
Guys, I am in a bit of dilemma. I have been placed on the WL at Wharton. I have not been accepted anywhere else and am not sure how to proceed under the current circumstances. How does the WL program generally work considering there is no ranking at this point?

I still have to hear from LBS and plan to apply Columbia/ INSEAD J-term this April/May. Should I wait it out and then apply as Wharton is my top choice or start the procedure right away? I understand that the odds of getting off the WL are low but I still fail to understand how it all works.

Any advice is much appreciated. Muchas Gracias!

So just to play the speculation game (coz i am tired of waiting around)... according the facebook.. there are 640 members as of now.. as compared to 960 in class of 2014 and 900 in class of 2013... so another ~300 or so spots... makes me feel better :)

Just wanted to add my name to the list of people who were waitlisted in R1 and still waitlisted after R2. Good luck everyone!
