Question: Distance = ?
(1) Distance = rate * time. Since we don't have the rate, (1) is insufficient.
(2) We don't know the time travelled, so (2) is insufficient.
(1) + (2): we know both the average rate and time, so sufficient.
The answer is (C).

Need to find the distance D from home to supermarket.

Speed S = distance D / time T

STATEMENT 1:

(1) Jim leaves home at 9:00 a.m. and arrives at the supermarket 20 minutes later, driving nonstop.

Time taken to reach super market from home is 20 mins.

Statement 1 is NOT SUFFICIENT.

STATEMENT 2:

(2) During this trip, Jim drives at an average of 30 mph.

SPEED S is given as 30 miles for 60 minutes.

Statement 2 is NOT SUFFICIENT.

combining statements 1 and 2, we get

30 mile is covered in 60 mins
Therefore, in 20 mins the distance covered is 10 mile.

Hence, the distance between home and supermarket is 10 mile.

Option C
