1: savings known, but total salary not given, cannot find fraction. Insufficient.
2: 5% of salary was put into savings. Fraction is given. Hence sufficient.

What fraction of his salary did Mr. Johnson put into savings last week?

(1) Last week Mr Johnson put $17 into savings
(2) Last week Mr Johnson put 5% of his salary into savings
(A) Insufficient as we don't know what was Mr. Johnson's total earnings. So we cannot determine what %age of his earnings is $17.

(b) \(5\)% savings \(= \frac{5}{100} = \frac{1}{20}\) Hence we can say that Mr. Johnson put \(= \frac{1}{20}^{th}\) of his salary into savings. Sufficient.

Hence, B.
