Arithmetic mean = sum/20..

Statement I The sum of the odd values is 1144 and the even values is 856 .
There can be only two types of integers - odd or even, so the total sum will be 1144+856=2000..
Mean =2000/20=100
Sufficient

Statement II. The sum of the lowest ten values is 400 and the greatest ten values is 1600.[/quote]
Again total 20 will consist of lowest 10 and highest 10, so total will be 1600+400=2000
Sufficient as mean is 10 .

the sum in each of the statements = 2000,
so the average is 2000/20 = 100

1) The sum of the odd values is 1144 and the even values is 856

Total Sum = Sum of odd values + Sum of even values $$= 1144+856 =2000$$
Total number of term $$= 20$$

Average$$= \frac{2000}{20} =100$$

Statement 1 is sufficient to find out the value of average.

2) The sum of the lowest ten values is 400 and the greatest ten values is 1600.

Total Sum = Sum of lowest ten values + Sum of greatest ten values $$= 400+1600 =2000$$
Total number of term $$= 20$$

Average$$= \frac{2000}{20} =100$$

Statement 2 is sufficient to find out the value of average.
