What is the Average (mean) of x, y, and z?

1) X + Y = 5

2) Y + Z =7

Q: \(\frac{X+Y+Z}{3}\)=?

1) No value of z - insufficient
2) No value of x - insufficient
1) & 2) Even after solving we'll be left with 2 unknown variables.. [To solve 3 unknown vars, we need 3 eqns]

Hence, E :D

We know that average of x ,y, and z is (x + y + z)/3,
so we need the value of x + y + z.

Statement 1 says
X + Y = 5. But value of Z is not known. Hence insufficient.
Cancel AD.

Statement 2 says
Y + Z =7. But value of X is not known. Hence insufficient.
Cancel B

Taking (1)+(2) together, we have 2 distinct linear equations with 3 unknowns, but we need 3 equations to solve 3 unknowns. Hence insufficient.
Cancel C

Hence answer is Option E.
