Should highlight the aspects that led to the gap. Achievements, if any, on academic / social front during the Gap should also be mentioned.

I have been facing this question a lot. The justification I have is flimsy and I can see that it does not convince anyone. How can I avoid this and convert my interviews?

A few things you could do via the optional essay/ interview:
1. don't provide unnecessary excuses as the adcoms is likely to see through them. Moreover they can be cheesy for a person who recognizes them as excuses
2. be matured and take responsibility. Demonstrate that you are now more matured to handle those situations with more responsibility.
3. If there is some kind of personal/professional growth within this period, then talk about it.
4. Give the adcom the confidence that you will utilize your time well while at business school. MBA programs are intense, so they would want to be assured.

Hi
Regarding the gap years, if the gap is of less than six months, you need not worry. If this gap is exceeding 6 months, then the admission committee will look for an explanation for this gap in your admission essay/SOP/Personal Statement. If the gap is due to medical reasons, then it can obviously be mentioned in the essay/SOP/Personal Statement.

If you have been involved in any of the following activities during the gap months/year (s), then it is not even counted as a "gap in education"

1. Learning certificate programs online/offline (eg: course era)
2. Involvement in internships-Paid/Unpaid
3. Involvement in part-time jobs/ freelance work

Hope this Helps!

Thank you
