Hi cmpragosa,
Great question.
Yes, I strongly suggest applying to a school that is different than your undergraduate institution. In the past, I have worked with many top-tier MBA candidates such as yourself, who have pondered the same question. My advice over the years continues to remain the same. This will benefit you, as a candidate, in several ways:
1) Since you already gained your undergraduate's brand as a part of your academic background, you will now be making a new brand investment to further enhance your academic and professional identity. A brand that will also attach itself to your name and become a part of your professional portfolio in future endeavors.
2) It will also give you the opportunity to increase your overall global network through new students, alums, faculty members and recruiters.
3) You will also further evolve as an individual and professional since a new environment will take you out of your previous comfort zone (i.e. undergraduate institution). Through this, you will gain a new set of experiences, immerse in another school's culture, and attain unique learning methods.
I worked with a candidate last year who went through this same experience and chose not to go to his undergraduate institution for his MBA. He is now a MAC Fellow and started his MBA at another top-tier program. He continues to share that he did the right thing. You can always speak with him or our other MAC Fellows through the "Fellows Briefing" option on our website.
Hope this helps. Please let us know if we could be of further help. We believe in helping candidates with their applications but saving their finances for business school.
Best wishes,
Sue
