The 2002 325i for $16995 looks pretty decent at 41000 miles. I like the interior - at least what it looks like in the picture.
But the exterior is black, so it's gonna be difficult to keep it spic and span, especially in Chicago winters...
For chicago you should try to get the Xi version. Its all wheel drive and will perform better on snow. Though, I must admit that the fuel efficiency is lower than 2WD.
As far as 3 Series is concerned, I like the old model (E46 platform) as opposed to the new 3 Series (E90 platform). The E90s look a lot like japanese car and the grill looks like Pontiac! I wonder what the BMW guys were thinking.
Though in the E90 they have significantly increased the engine power and the cockpit comfort/convinience!

i have the an e46 sedan...just be known that bmws (or european in general) are known to have lil kinks and issues after the 50K mile mark. loads of elec. probs
