Hi devinawilliam83,

Not really good with SC but gave you information based on some verbal notes I went through a couple of days. It was for distinction between 'such as' & 'like'. I used the same logic to reason for the question you posed.

Can you quote the source from where you got this? May some verbal gurus might shed some light then

Both the versions are correct.

like is used to compare(express similarity) noun clauses/phrases.
as is used for verb clauses.

Just because I learnt somewhere that 'Like' is used to indicate similarity, I will be inclined towards that one. Not a great explanation, I know, but I am trying to stick to the rules that I have at least heard/ read.

clause+like+noun=clause +as+clause
this is proved by og questions. the meaning is: the two things do something in the same way

but
like+noun,+clause
is different. the meaning here is that two nouns are the same because they do the same job.

there is clear difference in meaning

we can understand the difference between like and as by taking following sentences which express physical action rather than mental action as stated in above example. it is difficult to express change in meaning with above example.

I jumped like a clown : implies i wore a clown's dress and did makeup and inherited clown's properties and jumped.

I jumped as a clown does. : implies I jumped in a clownish manner; I copied the jump of clown.

Which is better to reason like an expert or to reason as an expert does and why?

Both are grammatically correct..

The choice you make depends upon the contextual meaning of that sentence.

Both can be used, no difference... Ya remembered the qn in Verbal Review.
Like an expert or as an expert does.
