Hi,
Very recently, I decided I wanted to look into getting my MBA and potentially getting a seat in Fall 2009, Spring 2010, or Fall 2010. After looking in to my options, I'm not sure which MBA program will best help me achieve my long term goals. Here is my background and my goals:
> I graduated from a top tier school with a degree in Electrical Engineering with the Computer Engineering Option. Given this, I was never passionate about engineering and decided to become a software technology consultant in May 2006. I progressed fairly quickly from the IT Business Analyst role to the IT Project Manager role and then decided that I wanted to pursue management consulting. This past May I joined a management consulting firm as an analyst and I enjoy it. I enjoy working with business cases and strategy business development because for me, its a lot more fun than merely 'coding' (in the I.T. realm) and designing software.
In addition, I've been working on a project/business to launch up and while I launched it in Facebook to start with, I want to promote this project/business. I have the entrepreneurial spirit to move and think strategically (while I don't have the experience in it, which is why the MBA).
> After my MBA, my short term and long term goals are to work for a top tier management consulting firm for another few years and then join my dad in his company and move from there. (On the side, I will keep working my level most to get my own project/business successful)
How do I know which MBA program is best suited for me? There are quite a few fields but yet, I don't know what will help me achieve my goals/objectives with the consulting path initially and then the entrepreneurial path. People have told me that an MBA in Finance is tangible material and MBA programs such as Management, et al. are not. I'm looking for an MBA program that will give the opportunity to practice LOTS of business cases to include market/industry analysis, M&A's, profit/growth strategies, cost reduct, etc... and gives me the element to work on entreprenurial projects (Infact, I want to write my projects directly on my dads and my own business).
What are all your thoughts? I know I'm confused but your help will get me in the right direction. Only then can I pick a school and move on it.
Thanks for reading and I look forward to hearing from you shortly.
