Hi Scott & Omari,
I have not been able to decide as to which round I should apply for...initially I was of the view that there would be nothing better than applying for R1 but now that I have spoken to some past/current students I feel that applying for R2 would be a better option.

I'm listing the pro's and con's of applying for R1 below(these are my views):

PRO's

1) The number of seats in R1 is maximum and subsequently the scholarships/TA/RA/GA doled out is also maximum and being a international student the amount of scholarship( if I do get any) matters a lot when I decide which school to attend.

2) If I do get rejected by my first choice schools I can apply for my backup schools in the subsequent rounds.

CON's:

1) After Im done with my GMAT I would be having only 2 - 2 1/2 months to nail my essays and this may cause my essays to be rudimentary or rather unpolished.

2) I would be competing with the over achievers and reapps in R1( after receiving feedback frm last year they would have significantly improved their app) which could significantly harm my prospects.

Would like to know your views on this.

I don't believe the hype with regard to round 1 being filled with "overachievers" or the "sharks". Historically the lowest number of applicants submit in round 1. Personally, I'd recommend that you submit applications when they represent your best effort. It's much better to submit an A app in round 2, than an A- app in round 1. I'd recommend that you focus on nailing the GMAT for now, then hone in on the essays with an eye toward round 1 and if you feel like you're rushing it, then go for round 2.

Personally, I submitted apps across the board in round 1 and it made things great in terms of planning purposes.

Thank you for your inputs.I just hope I can effectively utilise the 2- 2 1/2 months and come up with some good essay's n reco's.

One more thing ..would applying in R2 in any way hamper or diminish my chances of getting a scholarships/TA/GA ..

No, round 2 should still be early enough for you to get financial aid and all of that. By the third round people will start to find that some scholarships are no longer available. But schools know that more people apply in round 2 than in any other round, and they plan accordingly.
