No question. Go with the 740. IR is not that important as admissions committees have not started to take it into serious consideration at this point. Many schools will have you write down both scores anyway so they will see your "IR capability"

Good luck! Congrats getting the GMAT out of the way

Best,
Scott

Well I actually have the choice of reactivating one of these scores. Would you actually suggest reactivating both? I'm just worried that a 12th percentile, even in an unimportant section, might be a red flag. Retaking is also an option even though it would crush my soul

Long story short, because I like making my life difficult I scored higher on a retake but absolutely tanked the IR.

First score:
710 Q42 V45 IR 6 AWA (predicted 5/6)

Second score:
740 Q47 V45 IR 2 AWA (predicted 4/5)

The quant has been a nightmare for me and to score on the high range of any mock I took I was ecstatic and to be able to maintain that verbal score given how much I've focused on Quant I was very happy. Essentially, this was the exact score I was hoping to accomplish.

Except, for that damn IR score. I'm aware that a 2 is a red flag of sorts so my question is this, which score? The lower quant (I have a very non quant background), the lower IR, or yet again, retake this test.

I feel trapped in that I have the exact score I want and I probably can't use it, just need some input from those better versed in the big picture of admissions.

The 740. Every time!
And its a great score.
and the main GMAT score gets calculated in the school average, but the IR, nothing gets done with that.
So you are good, dude...

:)
Jon

I appreciate the sentiment, you have no idea how nice it is to hear that keeping the score is a more than viable option! I'm going to call the schools I'm looking at tomorrow but either way thank you for the input it definitely has helped the stress level.

The 740 is fine to go with. You don't really need the other one to help you. Usually applicants with a 740 don't retake the GMAT. Unless you are going for HBS or Stanford and have a very poor GPA that is well below the average, I wouldn't recommend retaking it.

Okay so I didn't do what all of y'all recommended and I went for the retake. Don't judge me but I simply can't get enough of the GMAT. In reality I had scored a 760 in a couple mocks and really wanted to have no questions on any score but I got a 730 in my retake and now have a difficult question I would really appreciate all of your input on

I scored 10 points lower but my highest quant yet (I come from a very non quant background) and fixed IR problem.

730 Q48 V42 IR7

So all in all my two predominant scores are (in order of taken):

740 Q47 V45 IR 2
730 Q48 V42 IR 7

Any tips on how I should submit one or two of these? I imagine schools see the date they were taken so I'm afraid to do the 740 AND the 730 and they see I actually went down 10 points (though higher in Q by 1) though I had a month extra to prepare.

In case you're wondering "Redfield, champ, what happened on your verbal?". Fun story, my computer crashed in the middle of the test and it took them close to an hour to fix it so by the time verbal was finishing I was more drained than I had anticipated and I must have made a silly mistake somewhere.

So would really appreciate input, stick with the 740, just do the 730, or submit both even though the score went down 10 because IR and quant went up?

No worries! I would still go with the 740.

Look forward to hearing how you move forward from here!

Wish you all the best!

Agree. Stick with the 740. Higher overall makes a bigger difference than 1 point higher Quant and the higher IR. 740 is a great score! Time to put the GMAT behind you and move on to your application strategy...good luck!
