Dear All,
I currently work for a top technology company as an accounting clerk. I will soon be promoted to either Team Lead or a Supervisor position, with 4 people under me. I'm 25 and have been with the company for 1.5 years.
My GPA is relatively low from a UC school and i'm planning to re-take my GMAT soon.
I would like to get into the top 10 MBA programs or programs overseas with emphasis on Int'l Business or Finance.
I am confident in my work skills and was wondering what do you guys think would make me stand out during my tenure as a leader? I will probably be in charge of several key projects that will facilitate efficiency.
And are there any extra-curricular activities that I could participate in to boost my chances of getting in?

Sounds like your promotion will really give you an opportunity to show your stuff. What would make you stand out as a leader is "results" plain and simple. If you can show tangible results that your leadership has had on the organization, you'll be in great shape. So, keep record of that impact -- be it measures of efficiency, revenue or the performance of those that you mentor.
There no specific extras that necessarily help more than others. I would recommend participating in extras that you can be passionate about and that represent you well. Don't just chase down the flavor of the week because it "sounds good".

I would urge all those promoted to new positions with leadership and management responsibilty and those considering/pursuing an MBA program to remember to keep focusing on some of the basic skills/attitudes of making it in a job.
While the classroom focus is on management concepts & tools (and of course job search!), it is a good idea to keep reviewing and sharpening your basic everyday skills - by applying them within your teams/workgroups and with everyone you meet.
Here are a couple of sites that provide info on these types of general workplace/career management skills/issues that will support you throughout your career.
