Hello everyone, I am planning to give GMAT this year and I am highly motivated. I have worked with major engineering firms and I have 6 years of experience. However , I have done my engineering in 7 years ,this is a major drawback in my profile. What are my chances of getting into top 20 B schools in US ?

Thank you for your post. A longer undergraduate alone will not hold you back from going to a good school, though you would want other elements to be stronger to compensate for that. I would be happy to help you more specifically but I need some more information about your background.

What school did you go to and what were your grades? Raw percentage out of 100 is fine if you don't have a GPA

What company do you work for now and what is your title?

What do you do outside of work?

Hi Himanshu,

There are a lot of factors that the B-schools look at in an applicant's profile. Without knowing the reasons for the delayed 7yr B.E it would be hard to comment on the effect it would have on your application. I'm hoping in all cases you will have to explain your circumstances in the optional essay.

It would be very helpful to explain the context of the delay in completing your undergraduate. You could use it to show lessons you have learned, experiences you have gained, and relate how these have helped you in your professional and personal life. Importantly, show you have performed since then, this could be through substantiated accomplishments at work, worthwhile community involvement, and other passions, as well.
