I am looking to apply Round 1 2009: 25 Caucasion Male
Academic
Boston College 05' GPA: 3.5 GMAT: 670 (taking it one or two more times until I crack 700)
Division I Athlete (athletic director's award)
Local baseball/soccer coach in Newton, MA during my 4 years of college
Work experience
3.5 Years by matriculation (2.5 at present)
-Private Equity analyst involved in major headline deals such as $1.2B acquisition of Lord & Taylor, Linens N Things, HBC, etc.
- The small group environment (9 people in my office) provided me with significant opportunities to intimately involve myself in all facets of the LBO due diligence process
- My boss has offered to promote me to associate at the end of this year (as he would prefer that I forego b-school and stay with the fund long-term)
-Substantial pay increases and bonuses over the course of the past 2.5 years
E/Cs
- Local soccer coach in the Fairfield county community
- Started a non-profit org based on the concept of sharing and donating sporting goods, clothing, and food (community support from 8 local business)
- Web designer for small businesses
- Involved in family business (own and operate hockey rink facilities)
My top choices are obviously: Wharton, Harvard, Stanford
Middle choices: Tuck, Ross, Duke, Yale
If I do not get into a top program I will more than likely forego b-school and stay with my fund
My post-graduation career goals:
I would prefer to stay in finance on the buyside in investment management (HF) or PE at a larger fund
I would also consider getting more involved in the development and expansion of my exisiting family business
My perceived weaknesses inherent in my application:
1) Low GMAT (stronger verbal than quant)
2) Compounded by my liberal arts background
Perceived strengths:
1) Significantly more hands-on deal experience than my peers (unique environment straight out of undergrad)
2) Strong track record of community involvement and as a team player
3) Outstanding recs from 2 managing partners at my shop
4) Essay writing and interview ability
I appreciate your feedback...
