You don't need to show those abilities in both... If I had to pick one, I'd say show it on the job. But, in your community service, hopefully you can show how you made a real impact, rather than merely attending events.

Thanks. I've project managed consulting teams so I'm not so worried about showing leadership abilities on the job.

Community service - I do mentorship, but its tough to show a real impact. In my first case, the kid had run away before I met her...so I ended up counselling the mom instead. I'm waiting for my second case now. I did take part in a 3-day camp where I made an obvious difference in someone's life (trust me even I'm surprised that it can happen in 3 days), but I'm worried that the timeline is a little short.

One question - do schools look for community service in particular, or any extracurricular activity is fine? For the ultimate frisbee side of things - I organised the first profitable league for 250 people in Singapore, I was on the team that organises the annual tournament in Singapore, attracting between 20-30 teams from Asia Pacific and I've captained a team as well.

Given this, my extra curricular is stronger than my pure community service, so just wondering.

Thank you so much for the advice!

They really look for anything where you 1) have made an impact and 2) have showed some passion for something. Making positive impact on yoru community is obviously something great to be able to show, but you can also show #1 and #2 with something as "non-serious" as ultimate frsibee. If you started a club and got 50+ people into the sport, that would definitely be a way that you made an impact.
