Let unknown percent be "\(a\)".

50% of y is 40==> \(\frac{50}{100} * y = 40 ==> y = 80\)

x is 40% of y ==> \(x = \frac{40}{100} * 80 ==> x = 32\)

\(16 = \frac{a}{100} * x ==> \frac{a}{100} * 32\)

\(a = \frac{1600}{32} = 50%\). Answer (B)...

If 50% of y is 40.
Then 100% of y is 80
So y =80
x = 40% of 80 = 32
16 is what % of 32 = 16/32 = 1/2= 50%

\(x = 0.4y\)
\(0.5y = 40\). So, \(y = 80\), hence \(x = 32\).
\(16 = \frac{?x}{100}\)
\(? = \frac{1600}{x} = \frac{1600}{32} = 50\). Ans - B.

Breakdown and solve -
Quote:
50% of y is 40

So, \(y = 80\)
Quote:
x is 40% of y

So, \(x = 32\)
Quote:
16 is what percent of x?

So, 16 will be 50% of x, answer must be (B)

We are given that 50% of y is 40. Thus:

0.5y = 40

y = 80

Since x is 40% of y:

x = 0.4(80)

x = 32

Thus, 16/32 = 50%.

Answer: B

Please put a space between full stop and 16..... I was reading it as 50% of y = 40.16... :lol: :lol: :lol:
