Xia has received a 50% increase in salary three years in a row. What is Xia's net percentage increase in salary over this three year period?

A. 125%
B. 150%
C. 237.5%
D. 337.5%
E. 450%

=> Net percentage increase formula is = a+b+ab/100
=> A = B = 50%
=> 50+50+50*50/100
=> 100+25 => 125%
=> Now take 125% as A and 50% of third year as B
=> 125+50+125*50/100
=> 175+62.5
=> 237.5
Answer is C

A. 125%
B. 150%
C. 237.5%
D. 337.5%
E. 450%

In percentage questions, it may be helpful to start with 100.

So let initial salary be 100...
End of first year = 100*1.5 or \(100+\frac{100}{2}=150\)
End of second year = 150*1.5 or \(150+\frac{150}{2}=225\)
End of third year = 225*1.5 or \(225+\frac{225}{2}=225+112.5=337.5\)
Net increase = 337.5-100=237.5

We are looking at net increase % = \(100*\frac{237.5}{100}=237.5%\)

A. 125%
B. 150%
C. 237.5%
D. 337.5%
E. 450%
Let Inital salary be 8

Slary after year 1 = 12
Slary after year 2 = 18
Slary after year 3 = 27

Hence, net percentage increase in salary over this three year period is \(\frac{27 - 8 }{8}*100 = 237.50\), Answer must be (C)
