Hello Senior Members,

I have a couple of questions, and request your expert opinion:

So I am an applicant from India, 27 years old, have 4 years of experience (will be 5.5 by August 2016) and already have a Masters Degree. I have been working in marketing and brand management roles, first with a top indian brand, and then with large MNC. I took the GMAT in October and scored 740, and subsequently applied in R2 for 2015 intake to a few schools. I got rejects after interviews from Yale, Emory and Ross, and didn't even get interview calls from Darden and Kellogg. I am yet to get any analysis done on my applications, but my own assessment for my reasons for rejections are:

- poor quant score (79 percentile) even though the overall score is above average
- already have a master's degree in business (though not an MBA)
- uncooked essays? (did not take any expert help)
- no brand value (not from a top undergrad-school, never worked at a Fortune/ big-5/ well known in the US company)

Now I'm wondering whether I should apply again, and if I do, what should my strategy be. I have two questions.

[*] I have a job opportunity with an Indian CPG major: the pay, designation and marketing budget will all be higher than what I'm handling in my current role. I'm wondering whether it will be a good idea to take this job now. Will a job switch just 4-5 months before submitting the application appear as a negative?
[*] Will applying again to the school where I was rejected earlier be a good idea, or should I only look for other schools?

Oh no! Not another reapplicant!

I'm kidding dude.

So really, the short of it, is that with a 740 you KNOW you can do better than Wisconsin. Most probably, the problem was your essays and your story (maybe your goals too - which could be an app-killer).

I totally think you should apply again, reapplying to some of the schools you already applied to, adding some new ones too. start early so that you can get a maximum number of apps in R1 which will allow you to play it safe.

But most importantly, have someone review your essays! There's probably something going on there.

You can get a Ding Analysis done here.

And that's probably where I would start if I were you,

Best,
Jon

Hi there,

Your stats are pretty good - In my opinion, you should've gotten an admit last time around. Perhaps the essays didn't do you justice. 79% quant is not a terrible score. Taking up a new job will be a positive thing. You shouldn't worry if it's just 4 months etc. especially if the job aligns with your goals in future. A new experience will give you new stories to talk about, which is always a good thing.
Aim to apply to a bunch of universities, target a few reapps as well as a few different schools. With a reapp you may not be able to change the goals too much, but with the new apps you will get a chance to rethink the goals and refine it further.

Please contact our international CEO, Chaya (chayap@aringo.com) for a free assessment call (with no attached commitments) so that she can more specifically pinpoint the weaknesses in your previous applications and advise you accordingly. I also encourage you to check out our website (https://www.aringo.com) for useful tips on creating impressive essays and putting your best foot forward in interviews.

Best of luck!
