If the bakery sold 1,000 loaves in that month, 40% would be be sourdough i.e. 400 loaves. rye sales = sourdough - 150 i.e. 250 loaves. Hence whole wheat loaves are 1000 - (400+250) = 350
Whole wheat loaves = 350 and Rye loaves = 250

An artisan bakery sells three types of bread: whole wheat, sourdough, and rye. In a certain month, sourdough sales account for 40% of the total loaves sold and exceed rye sales by 150 loaves.

If the bakery sold 1,000 loaves in that month, select for Whole wheat loaves the number of whole wheat loaves sold, and select for Rye loaves the number of rye loaves sold in that month. Make only two selections, one in each column.

Let total sales be x

sourdough sales= 0.4x
rye sales= 0.4x - 150
whole weat sales= 1-(0.4x+0.4x-150)= 0.2x + 150

If x=1000

sourdough sales= 400
rye sales= 250 (Answer)
whole wheat sales= 350 (Answer)

Let whole wheat be w, sourdough be s, and rye be r
We get, s = 0.4 (w + s + r) = r + 150

w + s + r = 1000

Substituting the value in previous equation, we get -
w = 350
r = 250
s = 400

Sourdough = 0.4 * 1000 = 400

Rye = 400 - 150 = 250

Whole Wheat = 1000 - (400 + 250) = 350

Whole Wheat Loaves = 350

Rye Loaves = 250

Pretty straightforward answer since we can calculate all the amounts with the given information, which gives us 250, 350 and 400. Select carefully!

Now, we have WW, S & R.
SS = 40%T = 2/5*T
- T being total amount of loaves.

R = SS - 150

Now if we knew T....

T = 1000 -> SS = 40%*1000 =400 & R = 400 - 150 = 250 --> T - SS - R = WW
WW = 1000 - 400 - 250 =650

Whole Wheat (W), Sourdough (S), Rye (R)

Number of loaves of W + S + R = 1000

Number of S = 40% (1000) = 400
Also, S = R + 150

So, R = S - 150 = 400 - 150 = 250

W + S + R = 1000
W + 400 + 250 = 1000
W = 1000 - 650
W = 350

Number of Whole wheat loaves sold = 350
Number of Rye loaves sold = 250

Since it is mentioned that in total there are 1000 loaves and sourdough sales accounts for 40% of total loaves so Sourdough = 400

It also mentions that it exceeds rye sales by 150 which means rye loaves sold in total = 400- 150= 250

So remaining out of 1000 Whole wheat = 1000-400+250 = 350

Here's the step by step:

  1. The total number of loaves sold is 1,000.
  2. Sourdough sales account for 40% of the total loaves:
    \( 0.4 × 1,000 = 400 \) sourdough loaves
  3. Sourdough sales exceed rye sales by 150 loaves:
    Rye loaves = \( 400 - 150 = 250\) rye loaves
  4. The remaining loaves are whole wheat:
    Whole wheat loaves = \( 1,000 - (400 + 250) = 350 \) whole wheat loaves

Final selections:

Whole wheat loaves: 350
Rye loaves: 250
