12 Days of Christmas 2024 - 2025 Competition with $40,000 of Prizes

An artisan bakery sells three types of bread: whole wheat, sourdough, and rye. In a certain month, sourdough sales account for 40% of the total loaves sold and exceed rye sales by 150 loaves.

If the bakery sold 1,000 loaves in that month, select for Whole wheat loaves the number of whole wheat loaves sold, and select for Rye loaves the number of rye loaves sold in that month. Make only two selections, one in each column.
Lets assume, W for Whole Wheat, S for Sourdough and R for Rye.
here, S = 40% of Total, and S = R + 150
We have total = T = 1000 loaves
Therefore,
S = 400,
R = 250 and W = 1000-400-250 = 350

Whole wheat loaves = 350
Rye loaves = 250

If the bakery sold 1,000 loaves in that month then find the number of whole wheat loaves sold, and the number of rye loaves sold in that month

From this information,
S + W + R = 1000 in last month, S = 40% (S + W + R), and S = R +150
now replacing values
S = 40% (1000) => S = 400
S = 150 + R => R = 250
S + W + R = 1000 => W = 350

Given bakery sold 1,000 loaves, sourdough account for 40% of total loaves
Sourdough = 1,000 * 40% = 400

Sourdough exceed rye by 150
Rye = 400 - 150 = 250

Whole wheat loaves = Total - Sourdough - Rye = 1,000 - 400 - 250 = 350

Therefore whole wheat loaves is 350 and Rye loaves is 250

Very Easy Problem.

Sourdough accounts for 40% of the total sales (1000 loaves), so sourdough sales were 0.40 x 1000 = 400 loaves.

Rye Sales:
Sourdough sales exceed rye sales by 150. So, rye sales were 400 - 150 = 250 loaves.

Whole Wheat Sales:
The total sales were 1000.
We know sourdough was 400 and rye was 250. Thus, whole wheat sales were 1000 - 400 - 250 = 350 loaves.

Answer:

Whole Wheat Loaves: 350

Rye Loaves: 250

Ans: Wholewheat loaves-> 350 and Rye loaves-> 250

Total loaves = 1,000
Sourdough loaves = 0.4 of the total= 0.4*1000 = 400
Rye loaves = sourdough loaves - 150 = 400-150 = 250
Whole wheat loaves = 1000-400-250 - 350

Based on the inputs provided in the question, sourdough sales account for 40% of the total loaves sold and exceed rye sales by 150 loaves.

This indicates that rye & whole wheat bread sales account for 60% of the sales

On checking the values for Rye bread one by one we find that -

For the first choice, if Rye loaves are 150 in number then sourdough would amount to 300. 40% of 750 would amount to 300 loaves, leaving the whole wheat value as 300 which is not among the options hence this choice can be eliminated.

For the second choice, if Rye loaves are 160 in number, sourdough loaves would come out to be 310. Since 310 is not a multiple of 40 this choice can be eliminated as well.

Similarly or the third choice if Rye loaves are equal to 180 in number, sourdough loaves would come out to be 330. Since 330 is not a multiple of 40 this choice can be eliminated as well.

For the fourth option, if Rye loaves are equal to 200, sourdough loaves would come out to be 350. Since 350 is not a multiple of 40 this choice can be eliminated as well.

For the fifth option, if Rye loaves are equal to 250, sourdough loaves would come out to be 400, 40% of 1000 turns out to be 400 so the remaining number of loaves should indicate the number of whole wheat loves which amount to (1000-250-400) = 350, which is among the options.

Hence the answer is Rye=250 & Whole wheat=350

The total sales of all loaves are 1000. Sourdough accounts for 40 percent of the total sales, which is 400 loaves. Sourdough exceeds rye sales by 150 loaves, so rye sales are 400 minus 150, which equals 250 loaves. Whole wheat sales are the remaining loaves, calculated as 1000 minus the sum of sourdough and rye, which equals 350 loaves. Whole wheat loaves sold are 350. Rye loaves sold are 250.

Hi All,

Given :

3 types of bread ww,s,r

In a month

s=0.4 x Total Sales
s=r+150

Data from question Stem: 1000 loaves sold in that month

Therefore-

s=0.4 x 1000 --> 400 loaves

and

r=s-150 --> 400-150 --> 250 loaves

Total loaves = ww+s+r
1000=ww+400+250
ww=350

Hence No of loaves for whole wheat=350 and for rye = 250

Correct answer is 350 Whole Wheat Loaves and 250 Rye Loaves.

Equations used are:

  • 2/5*(w+s+r)=s (since 40% of total loaves are sourdough)
  • r=s-150

Solving both, we get w=350 and r=250

Whole Wheat (WW), Sourdough (S), Rye(R), Total Loves sold= T
In a certain month, [S=0.4(T)], S=R+150 => 0.4T= R+150 => [R= 0.4T-150].

T= 1000....(given), Therefore, S+R+WW=T => 0.4T+0.4T-150+WW= T, [WW= 0.2T+150]

Also, it's been mentioned that 40% of Total loves sold is S type. So, 0.4x1000=400. therefore, S=400, R= 250,
WW= 350. therefore, ans- 350, 250

Explanation

The bakery sold a total of 1,000 loaves of bread, divided into three types: whole wheat, sourdough, and rye.

  1. Sourdough Sales:
    • 40% of 1,000 loaves: 0.40 × 1,000 = 400 loaves

    • Sourdough exceeds Rye by 150 loaves:
      Sourdough = Rye + 150
      400 = Rye + 150
      Rye = 400 −1 50 = 250 loaves
  2. Whole Wheat Sales:
    • Total Loaves = Sourdough + Rye + Whole Wheat:
    1,000 = 400 (Sourdough) + 250 (Rye) + Whole Wheat Whole Wheat = 1,000 − 400 − 250 = 350 loaves
Final Answer:
  • Whole wheat loaves: 350
  • Rye loaves: 250

Given: Total loaves sold = 1000

Sales:
Sourdough = 40% of Total loaves sold
= 40% of 1000
= 400 loaves

Also, it is given that sourdough sales exceed Rye sales by 150 loaves i.e.,
Sourdough = Rye + 150
400 = Rye + 150
So, Rye = 250 loaves

Whole wheat loaves are the balancing figure i.e. 1000 - 400 - 250 = 350 loaves

Correct Answer:
Whole wheat loaves = 350 loaves
Rye loaves = 250 loaves

Whole Wheat + Sourdough + Rye = 1,000

Sourdough = 40% of total = 40 % of 1000 = 400
Sourdough exceed rye sales by 150 loaves, therefore Rye sales are 400-150 = 250

Whole wheat + 400 + 250 = 1000
Whole wheat = 350

Whole wheat = 350
Ryes = 250

In TPA questions its always better to form a strategy first before solving. Well this is a fairly straightforward question.

The stem tells us that; An artisan bakery sells three types of bread: whole wheat, sourdough, and rye. In a certain month, sourdough(S) sales account for 40% of the total loaves sold and exceed rye sales by 150 loaves.
And the bakery sold 1,000 loaves in that month

And we have to select values for number of whole wheat(WW) loaves sold and number of rye loaves(R) sold that are jointly consistent with these conditions.

To solve this question we have to translate the statements into an equation;

sourdough sales account for 40% of the total loaves sold i.e. S= 40/100*1000 =400
and exceed rye sales by 150 loaves i.e. S=R+150 or 400=R+150 or R=250.

Now since, WW+S+R=Total
WW=total-S-R or 1000-400-250=350.

Hence, WW=350 and R=250

Hence we can fill the respective options here.
