In a large urban area, an initiative was launched to integrate interactive digital displays, such as touch-screen information kiosks and augmented reality experiences, in various public spaces. Following the implementation of this initiative, there was a noticeable increase in the number of visitors and the duration of their stay in these areas. The initiative's leaders concluded that the interactive digital displays were key in attracting and retaining more visitors.

Which of the following, if true, most seriously undermines the initiative leaders’ conclusion?
Weaken conclusion

(A) Surveys reveal that the primary attraction for visitors to these urban areas remains the variety of shopping and dining options available, rather than the interactive digital displays.-If this was the case, the visitors would come in the same number before installing interactive digital displays. A is incorrect.

(B) The interactive digital displays are often located near popular attractions and dining areas, potentially influencing visitor traffic patterns in their vicinity.- Similar to A. Why did it suddenly increase after installation of digital displays then?- B is incorrect.

(C) The urban area has seen an overall increase in tourism due to a city-wide marketing campaign promoting its cultural and entertainment attractions.Correct. It was not the digital displays but the campaign. Conclusion is weakened.

(D) The digital displays, while popular, require frequent maintenance and updates to remain functional and engaging for visitors.-Irrelevant, does not talk about the reason for increased visitors.

(E) Seasonal events and festivals, which occur regularly in these urban areas, coincide with the periods when increased visitor engagement is observed.-This pattern should occur during the previous years when there were festivals. We do not have sufficient information to support. C will be a better answer as it surely tells that it was campaign, not the displays.

premise: after integrating interactive digital displays no of vistors increased and they spent more time.
Conclusion: Interactive displays helped

we need to weaken the argument. So there should be alternative explanation for increase in visitors.

(A) Surveys reveal that the primary attraction for visitors to these urban areas remains the variety of shopping and dining options available, rather than the interactive digital displays.........................while that may be true, digital displays would have enhanced the experience and therefore no of visitors and time spent by them. This doesn't weaken the conclusion.

(B) The interactive digital displays are often located near popular attractions and dining areas, potentially influencing visitor traffic patterns in their vicinity.....................This in a way supports the conclusion

(C) The urban area has seen an overall increase in tourism due to a city-wide marketing campaign promoting its cultural and entertainment attractions................This is the alternative explanation for increased visitors and engagement

(D) The digital displays, while popular, require frequent maintenance and updates to remain functional and engaging for visitors.
..............it doesn't say that they often broke down thereby were non-functional most of the time and hence increase in visitors were due to some other factor.

(E) Seasonal events and festivals, which occur regularly in these urban areas, coincide with the periods when increased visitor engagement is observed........well this choice suggests that these events happen regularly. Doesn't explain the spike in number of visitors.

IMO OA should be C.

Conclusion: interactive digital displays were key in attracting and retaining more visitors.

We have to weaken the argument.

(A) Surveys reveal that the primary attraction for visitors to these urban areas remains the variety of shopping and dining options available, rather than the interactive digital displays.

This is a mild weakener. While the primary reason can be variety of shopping and dining options, we can have the interactive displays also as a reason. I will keep it for now but let's see if we have better options.

(B) The interactive digital displays are often located near popular attractions and dining areas, potentially influencing visitor traffic patterns in their vicinity.

This sorts of strengthens the argument. Hence, we can eliminate this.

(C) The urban area has seen an overall increase in tourism due to a city-wide marketing campaign promoting its cultural and entertainment attractions.

Better than A. Gives us a reason that the increase is not due to the interactive display but because of another reason. Keep this , eliminate A.

(D) The digital displays, while popular, require frequent maintenance and updates to remain functional and engaging for visitors.

Out of scope. Eliminate.

(E) Seasonal events and festivals, which occur regularly in these urban areas, coincide with the periods when increased visitor engagement is observed.

Very similar to A. Just because the seasonal events and festivals also attract visitors we can't rule out that the interactive display doesn't play a role.

IMO C (though I must agree E and A are close)

-- shopping and dining options were available even before interactive digital displays were integrated. So the argument doesnt help in undermining the initiative leaders’ conclusion.

(B) The interactive digital displays are often located near popular attractions and dining areas, potentially influencing visitor traffic patterns in their vicinity.
-- Irrelevant

(C) The urban area has seen an overall increase in tourism due to a city-wide marketing campaign promoting its cultural and entertainment attractions.
-- This argument clearly weakens the claim of the initiative leader.

(D) The digital displays, while popular, require frequent maintenance and updates to remain functional and engaging for visitors.
-- Irrelevant.

(E) Seasonal events and festivals, which occur regularly in these urban areas, coincide with the periods when increased visitor engagement is observed.
-- This doesnt clearly cite the reason for the increase in the number of visitors and the duration of their stay.

Answer = C

IMO answers is (C)

Conclusion: Initiative's leaders concluded that the interactive digital displays were key in attracting and retaining more visitors

Support: Following the implementation of this initiative, there was a noticeable increase in the number of visitors and the duration of their stay in these areas.

We need to undermine conclusion that interactive digital displays were not major factor in attracting and retaining more visitors.

(A) Surveys reveal that the primary attraction for visitors to these urban areas remains the variety of shopping and dining options available, rather than the interactive digital displays.

But this was before also, then why noticeable increase in no. of visitors. Doesn't weaken.

(B) The interactive digital displays are often located near popular attractions and dining areas, potentially influencing visitor traffic patterns in their vicinity.

This is slight strengthener to initiative leader's conclusion

(C) The urban area has seen an overall increase in tourism due to a city-wide marketing campaign promoting its cultural and entertainment attractions.

So, this undermines the conclusion of initiative leader that it was due to promotion of tourism travel started to come there and stay

(D) The digital displays, while popular, require frequent maintenance and updates to remain functional and engaging for visitors.

So they can schedule maintenance frequently during midnight and still attract lot of customers. So may not weaken the conclusion

(E) Seasonal events and festivals, which occur regularly in these urban areas, coincide with the periods when increased visitor engagement is observed.

Seasonal events and festivals may be one factor and it is quite possible that interactive display were key factors. so may not weaken the conclusion.
