According to the diagram, under the new plan, if a bus passenger paid on entry, then that passenger must not have boarded between 6am to 6pm.

The second blank need not be true. Say some one boarded between 6 am to 6 pm, then did not present a valid university student ID and did not board at University stop, it can be seen that the bus passenger paid on entry.

Interesting. I am curious whether the same logic can be applied to: According to the diagram, under the new plan, if a bus passenger pays on entry then that passenger must not have boarded at the university stop.

Now say if a passenger boarded at the university stop then there is no way he could also get paid on entry.

I am surely missing something when applying my logic, please correct me - thanks a lot! :)

That may not be necessary.
Say, he boarded between 6 pm and 6 am, then irrespective of what he does wherever, he has to pay on entry.

The left line that comes down as NO from ‘boarded between 6am and 6pm’ will always lead to payment on entry.

Hope it is clear.

A certain city's bus system includes several stops within a University campus. The city has devised a new plan to decrease the amount of time bus drivers devote to receiving payments at the busy University stops. Under the new plan, outlined in the diagram, passengers would pay upon entry, pay upon exit, or ride free, depending on the time of day, on their boarding and departure locations, and on whether they present a valid University student identification card (ID).

Select from each drop-down menu the option that creates the most accurate statement based on the information provided.

According to the diagram, under the new plan, if a bus passenger , then that passenger must not have

anushridi IMO, here is an easy way.

We need 1 of the last 3 end results but we need to reach that end result with the help of a 'NO' route because the second blank has to be filled with a 'must not have' option.

'Ride free' is reached by 2 paths and both are YES paths - eliminate 'ride free'.

'Pay on entry' is indeed reached by NO paths, which we need.
Yet the problem is 'Pay on entry' can be reached by any of the 2 NO's - both these NO paths are correct then.
However, we need to select only 1 option so we can not pick both 'boarded between 6:00 am and 6:00 pm' and 'boarded at a university stop'.
Eliminate 'Pay on entry'.

That leaves us with 'Pay on exit'.
So, we'll be able to lock 'Pay on exit' to fill in the first blank.

Furthermore, how can we reach 'Pay on exit'?
Out of 3 options:
1. 'boarded between 6:00 am and 6:00 pm'
2. 'presented a valid university student ID'.
3. 'boarded at a university stop'
NO route of option 1 and option 3 takes us to 'Pay on entry' while our destination is 'Pay on exit', which we fixed above for 1st blank.
That leaves us with the correct option 2.
Thus, effortlessly we can lock 'presented a valid university student ID' to fill in the second blank.
